Justin, you are one hell of a trooper, man! I'm not sure I could say for certain that I'd have the same amount of fight in me if I were in your position. Hopefully I can channel it somehow if they find anything wrong with my kidneys when I go to the specialist next week. Rest up, recover, and I'm sure in a week you'll be back out there doing your thing.

It's good that no important organs came out with that chest tube. I understand that it's hard to put them back.

I'm not badass. I'm just not going to let this keep me down. :) I'm headed out to one of my preserves in a little while to check on the boy scouts that are using it for training this weekend. Before you say anything about pushing it I have to admit to wussing out and canceling the Americorps supervisor training I was supposed to attend next Monday and Tuesday in Yosemite.

You're just as much or even more of a trooper bro. You just didn't have tests thrown at you yet but I guarantee that if you are ever tested you will handle it with ease. Besides, I have your back and I won't let you turn into a whining mess. lol

Maybe if they hired one of those clowns that are good at blowing bubbles in the shape of animals it wouldn't be so hard?

I will picture you under the healing sun, with good fresh air in your (remaining) lungs. I bet you will have more than one of those 'life is good' moments.

Hey Justin! I'm out of town and haven't had access to the internet until now, which is why I haven't posted sooner. It all sounds like great news (other than the pain and the scary removal of the chest tube!) It's a great relief that you came through the surgery alive and kicking. Now we just need that all-clear report. Keep us posted. Get plenty of rest, take good care of yourself, and enjoy the recuperation. I always kind of enjoy that time after being sick when all the pain and misery is over with but I'm still tired and can just rest and read and eat whatever I want on the justification that I'm recovering. I'm really happy for you right now.

Amazing stuff, F8L. It's all been said here before, but your response to adversity is an inspiration. Those scouts would be well advised to pay attention to what you can teach.

You'll be doing most of your inspiring on the right side now though.

I ask for the help of your other readers here, to come up with lobe-otomy humor. This seems like a new field.

Happy New Year, Asian style. We're hip deep in dragons at the moment.

Well other than spending way too much time on the forum I am laying low while I heal. I think I jumped the gun a bit on Saturday thinking I was ready to go trumping around out on the preserve. I didn't really feel well that night and the next day was worse. I realized I was having to actually work to breath and even walking around the house left me breathing heavily. I became concerned that maybe I had a collapsed lung or something so I went to the ER. After a bunch of tests they couldn't find anything wrong but they did notice that even mild walking caused my blood oxygen level to drop from 100% to 84% after just a short and rather slow walk down the hall. It was sort of difficult to talk and walk at the same time because I was trying to breath. After about 6 hours, some fluids, x-rays and a CT scan I went home.

Since then it is becoming easier to breath at rest but still doesn't take much to leave me breathless. I assume once I am healed up my lungs will adjust and breathing will become easier. The pain is also starting to subside. I have not been taking painkillers because all I have are Motrin 800mg and Norco (hydrocondone and acetaminophen). The Motrin contains ibuprofen and I cannot take that because I am on blood thinners. The Norco was making nauseated and constipated so I have not taken it since Saturday. I took one today, however, as I was feeling pretty regular. ;)

I'm still planning on returning to work next week but I gues I will just stick to office work until my breathing gets better..... Or I'll ask the boss for a truck and a quad to cruise around on! :)

I have a feeling the doctor probably told you to take it easy for a couple weeks? And, you obviously didn't from what happened. Remember, there is no such thing as a "minor" surgery anyway, and yours was pretty significant.

The downside to pain killers, is each one has some different effect. Hopefully you can get hold of something a little less potent soon.

Stick to office work for a week. The last thing you want is to be out in the field and have something happen before you're fully healed. After all, I need that head light done before you go out and hurt yourself! :D

Just lay low for a little while. Are we gonna have to have a talk with the gf to make sure you take it easy?

That's good advice, I've overdone it after surgery because I felt good. Overdoing things fixed the felt good part.:D I'm pretty good at following post surgery instructions now:cool:

I was kidding about the hiking. At least, right away. Rest up, let the stitches heal and get all those organs working properly again. It may take awhile to flush all that nasty chemo from your body. You have all the reason you need to catch up on your reading list. Or maybe your extensive collection of documentaries - but save the particularly intense ones for later, when you have your strength up. :)

Whoa, got to give your body some time to recalibrate. The balance between how much to pump the heart and pump the lungs has changed significantly. Guess what happens when a sea-level Floridian goes to Colorado to ski hard the first day. Same result....This I know.

The pharmacists are supposed to tell you to take a laxative or stool softener with the pain meds.

Walk it off. You aren't going to get any sympathy from this group.
