The bmw 5 has its battery in the trunk like the prius doesn't it. I don't think it maters a great deal, but this will drive people to the dealer for what should be a simple battery replacement.

I said in that other thread when price was announced I think this will sell hot. But that's nothing special, I think we all thought that! Thing will start popping up every freaking where.

Saw that pic of under seat, pretty wild.

not so sure that toyota has not thought about that though... they are usually were good at things like that, unlike germans.

If the c has the battery under the seat, and doesn't have proximity shut off, won't that mean more hassle for people who have the 12 volt die because of the SKS system? Or has the draining problem been solved in the gen3?
Seeing as how GM had enough foresight to put in jump points under the hood of the rear battery placed HHR, Toyota likely did so too, but I like to be able to charge the 12 volt after it dies. Even if it hasn't died, it just seems prudent to do occasionally to extend the battery's life. Lead acid last longer when at full charge, and it always a guarantee the car system did so before shut off.

Toyota to raise output of new hybrid by 30 pct

Jan 25 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp will make 320,000 units of its Aqua compact hybrid, launched last month, in 2012, up from its earlier target of 240,000 units, the Nikkei reported, citing company sources.

The Previous generations of Prius also had jump points under the hood.

22% increase on prius 2011 would be 520K, adding in the aqua and prius c that gets to 840K, a large increase from 2011. Toyota said @detroit prius sales including prius c are estimated at 220K a large increase from the 136K sold this year. I wonder if this larger estimate increase the US estimated sales.

Sales growth for toyota in 2012 seems mainly based on prius, aqua, and camry.

Hmm, end of the year also saw relatively good sales of the new RAV4 and Yaris, IIRC.

heh... wasnt I right about those numbers? :p
Toyota alone estimates 1.5 million extra units sold in 2012. Hybrids will add around 400k-500k of that... 1 million (and probably more) will come from other new models. Yaris and Camry are just launched. Corolla is coming soon as well as Rav4.

Toyota and Lexus will have almost completely all new lineup by the end of 2012. It is their 6 year update cycle this year... Same happened in 2006 and 2007 when they had their record sales.

I wasn't commenting on whether I believed them:D Just adding up the numbers. Last year toyota had a really bad year and sold 7.9M, and are predicting 8.6 million this year. I hope your right about 400-500K more toyota hybrids than last year. I don't think toyota will be constrained on batteries.

I hope its not like 2007, lots of mistakes made by toyota back then. They didn't do as bad as gm or Chrysler, but they seemed to lose part their way in the drive for sales. This is reflected in their stock price, down 46% in 5 years.

you are confusing it a bit - Toyota expects 22% more cars for the total of 8.6 million.
But thats not from 7.9 million, rather from 7 million that Toyota sold alone (rest is Daihatsu and Hino). Obviously 7.9 * 1.22 is not 8.6 :).

So they expect to sell around 1.6 million more Toyota cars.

Toyota is #1 valued car company in the world according to their stock :). Stock went down after all the media frenzy and earthquake.

Nothing really went too wrong with Toyota in 2006... A lot of those models are winning reliability awards right now for long term reliability. You got to be able to discern perception from reality... IMHO, Toyota's dark ages were from late 90's to middle 2000's, at least that was my reality after working for 7+ years.

also, lets not downplay Toyota's ability to built batteries for 1,000,000+ million hybrids per year. Nobody else can touch even 10% of that...

That may be right, which means I still don't have a good feel for number of prius.

This is more of how I remember the mistakes

They also really botched the recalls and public relations around them. I wasn't commenting on quality, but product mix and factories. But Toyoda did comment on quality.

They say owners make the Prius brand. I say, austingreen is not a worthy Prius owner.

According to Jim Lentz, via Bloomberg, when the overwhelming demand for the Aqua/Prius c is factored in, Toyota has raised it's forecast:

    Can you elaborate?

lol, I hope the car doesn't get judged only by its owners.
You got to see this, Getting yelled at for the diesel truck I drive - YouTube!

I don't think pointing out the automakers past mistakes is anti-prius. Toyoda seems to understand toyota's problems well, and I hope he is able to correct them.

Yes it appears that from December to January, Toyota raised their sales projections entirely on increased forecast of the aqua/prius c. If the projections are right, 2012, will blow away its past hybrid sales record toyota set in 2010.
