Well let me ask you this just to add another fly in the ointment. How accurate is the odometer that it is using to calculate the data.

A while ago there was a lawsuit about odometers being off The odometer was reading higher then it should have been.Could it be possible that since then they have it calibrated so it reads less miles then actually traveled. And that the computer fuel economy is closer then the calculated. If we are all using our odometers to calculate and thats off then the computer might be correct.

Gen III odometers are very close to right on.

How close is close. When we are dealing with 6 percent to begin with it wouldnt take much to take that percent down.Just 3 miles in 100 would eat up half and 6 of course would be enough to wipe out the whole difference.

The 6 percent difference between manually calculated and MFD calculated has nothing to do with odometer accuracy. They both use the same signal source.

But my point is that if Toyota knew it was off by 6 percent they could have set the mfd to calculate correctly.

We can all agree that the MFD doesn't match calculated. But to say that calculated is the correct mileage. We would have to know if the odometer is totally accurate since as you said they both get the info from the same source.

Mine appears to be off by at least 3 percent. But I will verify and will start a new thread

I'm looking forward to checking my Prius odometer. My 07 Corolla was off by 4% when I checked it a couple of weeks ago on a 100 mile trip as it registered only 96 miles on my GPS. That sure will affect my calculated MPG in a negative way.
