    It's just like computers of the past.

    CPU speed told much about the machine. Now, it alone leaves you with many uncertainties.

    More information must be included; otherwise, it's very easy for someone to be misled.

    I have an 85-mile commute. A tank of gas lasts about 5 round-trips, or about 425 miles.

    With PiP, if I can charge at work, I shave 30 miles of gas off each day, so it's effectively a 55-mile commute, which comes out to 7.7 days. With the PiP's smaller gas tank, I reckon I'll get 7 roundtrips instead of 5 on a tank of gas.

    But it doesn't stop there. Besides work, I drive about town when I'm at home, and those trips will almost always be under 15 miles of what's typically the worst MPG driving. I'll be curious to see what my final MPG will be. I'm guessing 65 or 70, if my employer lets me juice up at work.

    That is a fantastic analogy, John!

    In late 2010, I bought one of the newly redesigned MacBook Air laptop computers. It used only a 1.5GHz microprocessor (slow compared to most everything else) but it came standard with a speedy SSD (solid state drive). It was amazing how snappy it was simply because of how fast programs and data loaded using the SSD (much faster than the conventional 'spinning' hard drive found on most computers). The CPU doesn't tell the full story anymore.

    When it did well in benchmark testing some people complained because they said the test 'wasn't fair' because the MacBook Air included a SSD that made up for the slower (and cooler running) microprocessor. Why is that cheating?!

    In the end, it's the sum of the parts that counts!

    It will be interesting to see. I'd bet you have some gas usage during the 15 miles of EV-ish driving, I'm estimating about 125 mpg of oil consumption during CD, which over 5 days at 30 miles a day is likely 1 less gallon of gas available for the non-EV-ish parts of your commute.

    I've logged 36,000 miles on my 2010 Prius, and I've logged about 2/3 of the mileage at Fuelly, showing a lifetime average around 47~48 MPG. I doubt that my driving habits will change with the new car, so the results should be interesting.

    I voted 15 even though my commute is just over 11 miles. I figured I'll factor in 4 miles of charge for A/C or light heater use and if I decide to pick up groceries before heading home then the engine will come on (outlets are only on in the winter for EBH at work so I won't able to charge in the summer).
