I believe most Prius read 5% or more to the high side.I am not sure what correction is used however! H

OK, must be so folks feel better with a better number. So yesterdays 4.7L per 100 km is really about 5.1L per 100 km........

Once the ScanGauge has enough tanks to be well calibrated, it should be fairly accurate, at least until the fuel blend changes. But after just a single refill, I'd still put more faith in the Prius readout.

Your Gen2 readout is supposed to be fairly good, better than the optimistic gauge in our Gen3s.

OK, well, I guess I need more data points. Guess I`ll start to drive alot more!!

Ha ha. These were my thoughts also. I never new the Prius was so fun to drive, I tend to take the long route more often.

My ScanGauge II will be here in three days, looks like it will definitely be worth it, if I can set it up.

phdchp: how does one do that, get SOC info on the Scangauge. I tried to read/understand the x-gauge portion of the instruction manual and it just does not make sense how to set those things up. But SOC would be a great item to have......

SOC is a user programmed X-Gauge. Go to ScanGauge - Trip Computer + Digitial Gauges + ScanTools and search for X-Gauge commands for the Prius. There are also some threads on this site that describe this and other programmable X-Gauges. A lot of alpha numeric characters have to be entered correctly for it to work. So be careful!

I`ll pursue the x-gauge realm once my ride is where I want it to be......my brain hurst right now taking in all this new stuff.....

I am assume you made the custome obd cable with RJ45 tools? Please show image of obd cable mod..........
Next what gauge are your runnng with your "eight" gauge...
I am still trying to figure X-gauge out..???

All I made was a 8" Cat-5 cable. the RJ-45 connectors on the Scan Gauge are Loop Thru, meaning the data stream does not terminate at the Gauge. I do not have 3 Gauges, but I would assume that a chain of 3 is also possible! Programming the X-Gauge function is easy. there is a thread around here somewhere that explains it. Just figure out what X Gauge you want, and it's a simple entry process into the Scan Gauge. Read this thread...

Now, I am working with a PLX OBDII WiFi unit along with the Scan Gauges. I put a OBDII "Y" cable at the port, which is a driving nightmare, so I added a OBDII 90° Adapter cable. MUCH SAFER! The PLX WiFi is feeding a 7" Android Tablet running Torque Pro. So far I have programmed 8 pages of gauges. My goal is to have every PID displayed on some page some where, hopefully in a order that makes sense. It's a work in progress and currently the Tablet mount is my holdup. I need access to the mill at work to custom machine a holder out of Aluminum. That will set over the area just below the CD slot on the JBL Pkg! I will just have to adjust the Stereo with the steering wheel buttons!
When I get all my little bits done, I plan to do a nice write up, with pics. It's a work in progress! :D

Let me rephrase . I have prev used SG however never really used beyond gauge function. I can go "more" three time you get close to "xgauge" then edit np. I created in one of the "mail slot" a function for SOC but I get nothing. So will try again. I have trouble "overide" orig "xgauge" mail slot. What name did you use when you created a SOC and do this show real time when you drive and lastly which setting for data do you use "fast, normal, slow"??? thnks

Did you fill all four compartments of your mail-box with the SOC specific code?

    • To confirm for SOC within whatever mail-slot you choose:
      • Compartment named "TXD" needs code: 07E321CE
      • Compartment named "RXF" needs code: 056186CE0000
      • Compartment "RXD" needs code: 3008
      • Compartment "MTH" needs code 000A00020000
    "SOC"

    Yes

I use "fast" with no issues.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

I set up my x-gauge with SOC on my SG2 runs about SOC 57% OEM hv pack. However now the "MPG" now reads "#P#" , Not sure what is happening to display the "MPH" gives same display too. What can I do?

Sorry, sounds like a tech issue 'above my pay grade';).

Hope someone with more computer savvy than me will jump in.....good luck....

Just curious, but why is SOC so important to see? I know it gives you better MPG when the SOC is higher, but what specific benefits do you have of knowing the actual percentage vs. just what's displayed on the HUD. I've recently added Friction Brake Sensor to know when my brakes are on or if it's only the fake engine drag creating energy for me. A customer of mine mentioned recently that he went 150,000 miles before changing his brakes because he used them so infrequently.

While displaying SOC on the ScanGauge is hardly a necessity, doing so
gives you the ability to see/know exactly what the SOC is and if you
choose to use EV to extend a glide, use only what you want. This is a
subtle way of using the HSD operating algorithms to your advantage to
    get better than average MPGs.

Here's an expansion of the "bars" in the battery box on the Energy
    Monitor screen:

In warmer weather, the HSD wants the SOC to be around 60%, which
occurs close to the middle of the range of the 6th bar. (~65% in colder
months, and the SOC is often in the 7th, green bar.) But on the Energy
Monitor you can't tell if you have 66.5% SOC with a few %s to play with,
or 56 % and are about to drop out of the 6th bar.

If you drop out of the 6th bar, the HSD will run the ICE to get back to
~60% SOC. The HSD does this very sneakily. It will run the ICE a little
longer with the car at a stop. When you're underway, the HSD will send
power/torque to the Motor/Generator to raise the SOC via the Power
Spit Device. With a ScanGauge you can see this by monitoring RPMs.
For a given speed the RPMs are higher than normal when this is being
done... and there's nothing you can do about it, the HSD gets what it
    wants.

    Like Rokeby said. :)

When my GenII would drop to 57.5% SOC the engine would turn on and ruin a glide. This is a limiting factor when trying to glide for long periods down hill. :(

100% agree....and thanks for that cool graph!

I also like to moderate how I use my glide techniques to 'put the car away for the night' near 60%.

I'm no scientist, but my understanding is that the caustic effect of the electrolyte on the anodes/cathodes is at its minimum at 60% SOC.

So, I will 'give up' a perfect e-glide for the last 1 km into the garage for a burn rate of about 3L/100 km that lets me power down as close to 60% SOC as I can get.

Is ScanGuage better then torque for android or is it just easyer to have it installed rather then fiddling with phone?
