    So I have a 2005 prius... & that with a pa092 error code...

(toyota also suggested needing a battery aswell BUT as a previous classic owner, I have fixed battery issues before, & after inspection it looks fine to me...)

I was about to change the transaxal with one that I have bought hereafter, BUT am now having second thoughts about fitting it, & now thinking more about the invertor assembly...

I have tried to search for common issues, not cant make up my mind what to do...

I have nothing to loose, so I may aswell, & chuck in an inverter assembly after aswell if it needs be...

BUT I understand the car has a tsb on its inverter pump, & that its not working (as in pumping fluids through the bottleneck visible via bubbles)

I will ASAP check the battery charge sensor in the HV battery housing & can only WISH to check under the inverter cover for resistance at the three main points, with a megohmeter (that I dont own..)

what do you prius owners think I should do?

Has anyone got any history and experiance with this pa092 error?

Please shed some light on this topic, thanks in advance....

Get your car to the dealer ASAP and get that free new inverter coolant pump and new coolant. Make sure they bleed the pump also.

the thing is its not driving, when it was at the dealers, they suggested sorting it out 1st then doing the tsb... as they could'nt get it started so they said...

BUT the cars starts fine with me.... just with alot of xmass tree lights on the dash..., LOL & no ability to drive atall, espacially reverse, which makes me think it is the transaxal.... as with my classic prius the symptoms are the same...

I presume you tried disconnecting the 12V for a few minutes to get rid of Xmas tree lights? (rebooting)

I just wacked up an inverter on ebay with 90 warranty.... for well under £200

BUT after, I realised its from a too new of a vehicle... 2007

    mines a 2005

the different part numbers available for toyota prius synergy drive unit inverter:

    2004 - g9200-47100 - G9200-47120? current model?

do you guys know if it will be compatible? mines a late 2005 model, the one I picked up is from a 2007?

What are the differences in the part numbers please if anyone knows? are they compatible with each other?

The most recent part number is G920047121. It will fit. It is better to have the 47120 than the 47100.

The inverter arrived today, & I confirm its the most recent part number being:

    G9200-47121

With the P0a92 code, would you suggest me replacing the inverter assembly, & giving it a shot before I fitt the transaxal?

I have both, but would save time & money...

I definantly suspect mg2 though.... as the cause...

The inverter is a ~2 hour job for a technician, 3-4 if you are doing it. If it is the inverter, then you will save some money on the much bigger transaxle job. If it is the trans, then perhaps you can sell the old inverter to offset the cost of trying it first. It would be important to my own sanity to know where the problem was.

The latest is that I have had the transaxal put in, will try it with the old inverter 1st, if any issues, will fall back on the newer inverter...

I have yet to BUY the WS fluid, pain in the butt in the uk, tryed halfords they dont have an equivalent, will try toyota, But the last time I needed some they would not even tell me what it was called...

So monday is going to be an interesting day, & thats when I will turn her over to see if all is well... Wish me luck...

As fas as trans fluid any Dextron 4 fluid will work fine. There is nothing very special in WS other than its a rather thin viscosity (sae 10) to help with fuel economy. In the USA there are many WS alternatives.

Ed, I'm inclined to agree with you, but how do you explain the poor UOA (high copper? don't remember) for AMSOil that someone reported?

Redline D4 or D6 is available in motorist shops in the UK AND is fine in the Prius According to posts with UOA's on PC.

Thanks Cwerdna for answering Seilerts. It was Bob who was running that Amsoil version. I googled the hell out of that stuff back then and found a tech article that said that particular Amsoil tended to attack copper.

Alot of us here are running Redline D6 or D4. Redline now recommends D4 for the Gen II as maybe there D6 may be too thin a viscosity. Although if you ask Dave at Redline Tech he said D6 will work fine. I have been running D6 for about 40,000 miles and the car runs great and have also done a UOA on D6 in my car with no ill wear indicators. But really any Dex 4 fluid will work fine to get you going short of that Amsoil version.

There's not alot of special fluid needs in our gearbox.
No clutches, no torque converter. Just a chain and gears in the planetary, and bearings. Just needs a very good GL4 lubricant.
