Does it indicated that changing of gears (D or R)? Are you sure you are in Ready mode?

Love to come down there... care to send a ticket? :)

Yeah Spidey, it's a beautiful sunny morning here, about 23degrees C except my mood is rather stormy. All seems normal, release park brake, foot on service brake, push button, get "READY", shift to R, car jacks up, shows power going to traction motor but we don't move. Same for D. Since first post I've disconnected the 12v but still no go.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a make-out session with your wife. You don't even have to use the "car is out of gas" line! :D

OK, while my post won't help your car start, it could still be fun!

Hope your issue is resolved soon and inexpensively!

Is the car on a steep incline? Could the parking pawl be stuck?

It's sitting in my garage, flat as a strap. I'm now starting to wonder how anyone can move it even to get it onto a flat tow.

If it jacks up, that would seem to indicate one or a set up wheels is not free to move. Are the rotors rusty... i.e. did it rain hard recently? Or the parking breaks are stuck on as mentioned.

Nobody has answered whether it's been sat on a slope. Is your wife (or are you) sloppy engaging Park and have now jammed it? Who was last to use the car? You don't have a teenager driver in the household by any chance? Have you tried to waggle the car to disengage Park?

I can rock the car enough to see the rotors move within the calipers so I think I can discount a brake problem...unless the power brake actuator has a mind of it's own.

Grumpy, all of that, I am the only driver and I never engage PARK unless prompted.

Now wondering if there is a fuse for the park solenoid (if it is a solenoid)?

Don't now think it's the park pawl as I'm pretty sure I can hear it clacking in and out. Gonna jack up each wheel in turn to find the culprits.

Spiderman gets the gong:cheer2: I'd checked the front brake rotors for rotation, both free, LH rear free and because it's difficult to check, I didn't bother with the RH rear. Well, I've lived my whole life by Murphy's Law and when I jacked up the RH rear, it's frozen SOLID.
So solid that I could not free it with any sort of leverage I could get onto it.....sooo, fired up Prius, selected R and gunned it, still doesn't move...gunned some more, brake releases, Prius jumps out of garage at a great rate of knots (lucky the door was up) and except for some scraping noise from RH rear everything is hunky dory. Yes Spidey, we,ve had over a week of rain here and last sunday I washed car,PAYING ATTENTION TO HOSING WHEELS, and it hasn't been used until this AM. So there, thanks to all respondants my blood pressure has normalised and we're off to the shops...thankyou Prius Chat.

Glad you figured it out! Makes me worried about damage.

I always drag my breaks after I wash to dry the rotors after that happened to me.

EDIT: Never mind. Just saw your latest post.

Are you holding the stick long enough in D or R in order to engage it?

Well we didn't get to the shops, too much scraping so to cut a long story short..pulled off back brakes, found pads bonded to discs, scraped offa disc, not easy, re assemble, now fine. Why would pads decide to bond to discs, admittedly they were wet.

Wow is right! Makes sure the dealer sees this and I would ask for a new rotor and pads (assuming under warranty).
