Planing CanView and BMS+ conversion with lithium

    micheal told me those charge curve presets are only for CLA battery setups and not for litium?!
    i already asked him to have charge curve 1 set to 230 at 2 amps and curve to 270 1 amps etc

    i dont think i have to be afraid about the celllog failing and the pack overcharging
    i mean i have 9 cellogs monitoring 72 cells, they al have to fail at the same time to have my full pack being overcharged.

    wy be afraid about opening the charger... your going to send it back? wait weeks for it to come back if you have a warranty problem.

    did you not asked for a differtne max voltage?
    because in that case they are not really consistent....

    when you first plugin your charger after its beain poweredoff the red led flashes to tell you what charge curve is selected
    3 blink is curve 3 etc something like that

    I was not asked for a max voltage. Where is this sticker you peal off to press a button?

    i have no idear but maybe its only on the CLA versions or underneet the yellow,red.green charge state sticker?

    how do whe call these A123
    they are not just lifepo4 because thats litium ion phosphate but the A123 are litium ion
    Nanophosphate so LifeNpo4?

    The button is located behind the yellow sticker. There is also a five pin inlet for what is probably a field programming port. There is also a red LED above the push button. My charger was set for curve 1. I am not sure but I think that it may be programmed with the 300 range of curves according to the info on Evolveelectrics.com.

    if field programming US possible them with some brains I don't have we could reset the voltages ;)

    If I only knew what the 10 charge curves are that are programmed into the charger. I would like to program it with charge curve 315 which I think should correspond with curve number 7. This curve has a V3 and V4 value of 3.4v and 3.6v. So with this curve it should go into CV mode.

    thats good news! the same thing i asked evasemble but it was only for CLA? but maybe with large numbers if would be possible..did not understand what he was referring to.

    but that charge setup, up and down would be great!!

    picture first runing cell-log:cheer2: the 5 i have now ( that one did came today so a total of 5 now and the other 4 have reached the dutch flatland:p ) these where within 11mvolt ( dont look at picture that 117mv ) so thats nice i think.

    does anybody now what those black plug are called? i know then from the pc but cant remember
    if the XH plugs are hard to get fast i maybe just get these from the pc store

    OMG i justed discoverd that i used 50amps SB50 anderson plugs back in 2008
    that was with 3 oem packs so the amps that every pack needed to provide was less then 50 amps...
    mmm those never got hot or warm at all... but now i have 2 oem packs in 1 lithium pack...
    all of the current wil come from this pack and not from the oem or do you think because t he cell discharge themselfs in the oem pack the oem pack wil also provide 50% of the requested energy? then a 50 amps anderson is stil fine...

    so when i use 100amps continues it will be 100 / 3 packs = 33 amps and thats ok.
    looking at the current setup the litium will be higher and so discharge into the OEM and provide power to drive so will have to handle the 100 amps.
    OR? wil the 100 amps be devided and wil i never see more then 50 amps where the 100 amps that i use ( if i ever get there continues use!? ) devied between the litium and oem.... maybe that latest is what is going to happen
    when i would drive in OoG ( out of gas mode ) mode its max 125 amps ( correct? ) and so the connectors will need to handle up to 62,5 of you do so continues they wil get warm....

    so maybe 50 amps plugs are not that bad....

    so you have 175 amps? but dont you think when your driving and pulling 100 amps there is 50 from the oem and 50 from the litium?
    and when you go to 125 amps its 62 amps so you will get the pug warm?
    or do you think that 50/50 oem and litium wil work for a chort while after the oem packs gets down and the litium pack is providing the biggist part of the 100amps and also charging the oem pack a bit?

    damm its a 32volt fuse the mege 250.. well at 250 amps its to high anyway.
    maybe i pul the fuse from the prius add packs i got its perfect.
    and then i replace that later on if i need to.

    The answer is very difficult.

    You have two chemistry : nimh and lifepo4, not the same capacity, not the same internal resistance and not the same temperature variations.

    Internal resistance is very different : 0,3 and 0,1 ohms
    Capacity also 1,3kWh and 4,5 kWh
    Chemistry : probably not the same time constant.

    At the begining of this project I plan adding a hall current sensor on the lithium cells. With this, and because we have on can bus the total current it is possible to know the two values.
    Because my bms work 100% fine now, I will add this hall sensor and store this data in the log.

    But I suppose you want a quick answer.

    There is a thermal answer. What I saw is that nimh stay cold and lithium is about 25°C now at the end of trip, (temp will be highter in summer)
    So I suppose the main average amperage come from lithium.

    There is an other answer. The capacity. 20xA123x20Ah can give a maximum of 4000 Wh and nimh during the same time 125Wh.
    So Lithium do the main job until depleted. After depleted may be the nimh and lithium share amperage more evenly.

    But the plug must be designed for the worst situation. Driving up a hill at low speed, less then 45 km/h so you can use 125A. Or a big braking.

    Anderson SB serie have 50A, 120A 175A...

    well nothing is for sure with me :p:D

    the sb175 is 25mm2 leeds/pin and i have 16mm2 wire but maybe i can get 16mm2 leeds that can also handle the 175 max amps.
    this wire i have can handle up to 95 amps... its supposed to be 6awg but i read thats 13,3mm2?
    what wire are you using?

    the sb120 is not used a lot and the Sb175 is cheaper apparently

    I tell you I love this car more and more every day:D. I emailed Norm at Hybrid Interfaces and asked if there is a way to add a button to the BMS+ screen to let me clear codes when pushing my out of gas button without pushing 6 buttons to get to the DTC clear and return to the BMS+ screen. He said he would try and work on it when he gets some time and PRESTO. I received a email to day and let me know he put up a beta test file for me to try out, It works great. I drive in out of gas mode at least 90% of the time and I love this new button. There is one more setup option and it changes the BSM+ screen to the new screen. It takes the space on the screen of the monitor board info for extra packs, so if you are using those boards I do think you will be able to see that info. It is for V3.

    I am also learning how to control the full regen a lot better. I will try doing another full Out of gas drive this week to see if I can increase the miles I can travel.

    Thanks to Mr Eflyer as I am sure he is reading our posts. Will try this beta version ASAP. I would also like to limit CCL max value to 40 amps. Can we do this now.

    Are you worried the higher CCL is going to over heat your cells? If I understand it the cells would have to be getting hot if the charge current was too high for those short bursts???

    I thought there was a code up on the site for someone else to limit the current?

    I may be wrong on both Items:)

    I see a regenerative braking current between 80 and 90 amps (4-5C) on my EV display unit for about a few seconds or so going into my A123 20AH Lifepo4 pack. Normally you would not worry about it but I do this on an almost daily event on my commute to work and I wonder if there is a long term affect on the cells over time from seeing such high charge currents on a daily basis. I doubt that any heat would be generated in the cells during these short bursts.

    Mr Plug-in,

    Does the new Beta version of Canview show a "OutOfGas" or "ICE disabled" mode on the screen. An indicator saying that you are driving in OutOfGas or "ICE disabled" mode woud be handy. For those who are memory challenged.
