Me too. The green sticker was my top priority, so I'll be pretty upset if it doesn't go down as planned. Still, I've gotten enough reassurances from people at Toyota to feel confident there won't be any issues. I just hope they don't run out by March.

The Toyota rep probably isn't the expert at CA Hybrid lane stickers, so you're trying to get reassurances from the wrong source. Your best bet, is to research, does the PIP meet the requirements, will they run out of them before you get your car, then you have your answer. Both these things have been addressed many times.

i hate to break this to you at such a tender age, but a random chat representative is not going to tell you yes to some answer that depends on state and federal law, even if the answer is crystal clear. toyota has to disclaim even the appearance of a guarantee that X or Y will happen to avoid lawsuits.

heck, even the IRS won't give you an answer about certain things (imputed interest) because they have multiple precedents differing by geographical area.

all toyota can can tell you with certainty is what they told you: check with the state/feds.

toyota has every reason to get this car certified for stickers. it's a huge incentive for people to buy the cars. they are just not going to tell you about it because they can't set the expectation that they will succeed.

i think the fact that the prototype machine was certified really should tell 90% of the story here.

Worrying for the sake of worrying. If the 2012 doesn't get the green sticker for some odd reason, just cancel your order and buy a leaf, volt, CNG Civic, etc. if that's the main reason you are buying the PIP. Green stickers come out on 1/1/12, the car comes out in April, so you'll know before delivery. You even get your deposit back, all worrying solved.

Just imagine the plug-in general manager explaining to the company's executives why thousands of orders were just canceled because of something like the length of the emissions warranty... I'll be the first to cancel if they don't qualify for the stickers. But I've got to believe the chance of this is between slim and none.

Ok. We all know that California has now accepted the 2012 Plug in Prius as qualified for the green carpool sticker. But.. it still says "pending federal approval." Does anyone know WHEN these Feds may or may not approve it? If they say that the green sticker is effective 1/1/2012, nobody can get one without the program being federally approved. There is no further info on the dmv.ca site. Anyone have further info?

Yeah, but that's because California approved the Plug-In Prius. The CA DMV site still says pending federal approval. Want to know if the feds have given California the blessing for the GREEN sticker. Have any 2012 Volt owners been able to apply for the green sticker yet with success?

Hey guys. After two days of trying to get an answer at the DMV, I just spoke with a lady (Kathy) who works with the HOV decal department. She said that they will NOT be giving out green stickers to Prius Plug-In drivers when those cars are sold next month. She explained that although California approved the 2012 Volt and Prius Plug In, the program needs to be blessed by the Feds so California can get the funding. So far that has not happened, and there is no indication of if or when that's going to happen. So it might be a while, guys!

I should be more skeptical about how government works, but why would the state of CA get into a the whole 9 yards of a program that is potentially so highly at risk? Since there is no qualifying car yet registered, I could see the Federal bureaucracy just delay on certification until after the first delivery.

In 2006, the qualifying cars for the yellow stickers, the Prius and Insight, were already on the market for a while before the program kicked off, so we just didn't see the initial foot-dragging phase. The questions now would be a) when will it get approved; and b) if it takes a longer while, would they extend the valid date beyond 1/1/2015?

I realize that the FEDS are a lot of different organizations, but if the car's at the IRS website - ie the FEDERAL tax website, the DMV Feds are not far behind.

It's still a full month or so away till cars are on ground. There's plenty of time for "Kathy" and everyone else at DMV to get updated.

That's good news. Thanks for posting the application link. Hopefully when these the plug-in Prii start to get sold next month, someone will report success here on this board about getting the green decal! I hope that lady I spoke with at the DMV was wrong!
