A simple question about leather

    Regarding Leather: The thing I dislike the most about leather is the way your skin sticks to it. It is often hot and humid in August in Minnesota and I will often drive my car with windows down wearing shorts. If my leg (or arm) would stick to the leather interior, they would drive me crazy (and make me very crabby)!

    I wonder how Softex is, in that respect ('stickyness')...

    I'm with you Dianne, my PIP is basic.I'm putting leather in as soon as I get it. It wears like iron and cleans like a breeze. My dog Gracie loves it too.:)

    I wonder if the majority of pro-leather people have kids and pets.

    I like cloth seats IF the material is high quality. Our Mazda's cloth looked and felt brand new after 10 years. I touched the cloth in a G3 III and it gave me the heebie jeebies.

    I remember in the 70's when just about all UK cars has vinyl seats and cloth upholstery was a luxury.
    I personally don't have a preference for leather or cloth as leather is easier to wipe down but cloth is warmer. I do think Ivory coloured leather looks luxurious in a car though.

    I only care if the material is of high quality (cloth or leather). I won't take the leather is if it's cheap (Relatively speaking. Of course it depends on the the vehicle I'm buying. I'm not expecting Lexus-like leather on a Corolla for example) and would rather take cloth in that case and vice versa, if the cloth feels cheap, I may upgrade.

    Having had leather on the Camry, '10 Prius and smart fortwo and cloth on the '97 Corolla DX Plus, '00 Corolla LE and '05 Prius, I can say I'm indifferent. (Of course the 2000 Corolla VE's "unwoven cloth" felt pretty low rent while the CE got nicer cloth and the LE had a nice pattern on the fabric). The '05 Prius' seats still feel nice and comfy after 7 years but the Camry's leather seats still felt cold and a bit slippier than new after 7 years.


    My favourite is still the smart's leather seats. Those were really nice seats for Cdn$18k!

    That's my opinion also. It's the quality that matters. A high quality, protected durable fabric can be great. Clearly better than a cheap low quality leather. But a high quality leather...is great...

    So for me? The determining factor is the quality of the product, Cloth or Leather. There are some advantages and disadvantages to both or either.

    Ironically? Hands down the most comfortable seats in a vehicle I ever have experienced came in a late 80's early 90's (I've forgotten the exact year) Ford Focus my Father bought.

    That Ford Focus had plush, thick, almost recliner like seats. I actually looked forward to sitting in them.

    The Focus itself was far from a great or luxurious vehicle, but for whatever year it was, Ford put the most comfortable seats in it.
