Toyota Debuting Seven-Seat Prius + MPV and Yaris Hybrid Concept at Geneva Motor Show - Motor Trend

Toyota launched a new marketing campaign in the U.S. for its Prius hybrid — Prius Goes Plural — as it plans an expansion of the Prius lineup. The Prius V production car and the Prius C concept debuted at Detroit this year, and a new Prius + seven-seat MPV will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show alongside the Yaris HSD hybrid concept.

While the seven-seat Prius + sounds like a further extension of Toyota’s “Prius Goes Plural” campaign, the teaser image shown looks suspiciously like the Prius V Toyota debuted at the Detroit auto show earlier this year. While we won’t be able to confirm if it’s a Prius V with two more seats until Geneva, we do know it will use the same hybrid powertrain as the Prius. This means it will feature a 98-horsepower, 1.8-liter I-4 and an 80-horsepower electric motor putting power to the ground through the front wheels and a continuously variable transmission.

The Yaris HSD concept though, is definitely new and reveals part of Toyota’s plan for its future hybrid styling. As of now, the Yaris HSD is merely a concept, even without any preview of what mechanicals will power the car. Toyota does however, say the Yaris HSD is a preview of its intentions to bring a hybrid B-segment vehicle to market — at least in Europe. This is also the first we’re seeing of the European-spec Yaris, which was previewed earlier by the Japanese Vitz. We’ll likely see this same vehicle as the next-gen Yaris in the States.

These two new hybrid debuts are just part of Toyota’s stand at the Geneva show this year, which will be entirely dedicated to hybrids, plug-ins, electric vehicles, and fuel cell electric vehicles. Stick with us as we approach the Geneva Motor Show, the Prius +and Yaris HSD reveals, and as we learn more information and Toyota’s future hybrid plans for Europe.

I believe we're getting four new hybrids this year, five if you include the updated 2012 Prius.

Unfortunately pricing hasn't been fully established. I hope Toyota aren't going to do their usual overpricing trick.
