    Hi guys,

I am trying to install a 7 inch touch screen in the upper glove box on my 2011 prius.

was wondering if any one here did anything similar and has input or pictures to share?

Do you plan the monitor use for the driver? It looks to me to be quite far from the driver seat and also at big angle of view, which will limit the visibility of the screen. Did you made a test?

    For said vehicle, no.

Now a question back to you. What purpose will the "7 inch touch screen" serve?

He want's to install it the passenger side so obviously it's for the passenger.
The LCD monitor can easily be fiberglassed onto the upper glovebox door and keep the glovebox functional.

I am installing a car pc in the lower glove compartment.
Initially I was planning on using just the car pc and a 7 inch touch screen as the media center.

It will do gps, rear view cam, music, video, TV, Bluetooth hands free, obd scan gauge, internet etc. but without the head unit I would have to install a separate amplifier and if the PC is not working for some reason I would lose all that stuff.

So now I have decided to split the functions. I am installing a nice Chinese HU (for sound and the rest of the stuff) and hooking up a car pc to handle internet and OBD (Pandora, youtube, Netflix etc).
The Chinese HU I have does not come with VGA input so i am thinking of hooking up a 7 inch touch screen in the upper glove compartment. When the glove box cover is closed you would not know there is a screen installed in the car..

The video output from the car pc will be split to go to the touch screen and the HU. I am not planning to do any fabrication. Don’t know how to do that.

There are two reasons for not going with head unit aux input.

    1. The Head unit only has RCA video input, which is great for reverse camera and stuff but not great to display small txt on screen. I needed at least a monitor with VGA input. hdmi would have been better but cost was an issue.

    2. Even if I use the head unit aux input to display the car PC, the touch screen on the head unit has no interface with the car PC, I would have to use a touch screen overlay on the head unit which would require me to open up the head unit ( voiding any warranty).

I have all the parts I need now and am waiting for the temperature here in New York to warm up a bit so I can do the install outside without freezing. I hope someone has already installed such a setup in their prius so I can get a better insight into how to proceed.
