    also many people pay far less then 15000 for a same size car.
    i dont need the gooddies of a avensis i want to cheap and fuel sipping car.
    airco and elec windows you get the automatic for free as part of the system.

    I just read that in Germany, there will be a three doors version starting at 16950 Euro.

    @Flying White Dutchman: You're absolutely right, and the real question is whether one really needs a hybrid for a higher cost, whereas there are many town cars costing 10000, bring you from A to B, just consuming a bit (be it 1.5 l) more.

    Considering the HSD system's reliability, second hand price stability and added value with regard to comfort and ease of driving, particularly in crowded urban and sub-urban areas, there will be people willing to pay the price. I am not yet sure for myself.

    Note added on March 11th. There will not be a 3 doors version of the Yaris Hybrid. Only the 5 doors, which makes the price even more attractive.

    Add 3.000 € and you get Auris HSD, of course this is with 2.000 € discount from the list price. If they want to sell Yaris HSD they will have to add some discount on that price (say 1.500 €).

    right, a discount of up to 5% is not unusual. It will be very interesting to see how the Yaris sells. It could become a serious competitor for the Auris.

    Here are a few pictures showing interesting aspects of the Yaris Hybrid.

    1. The Yaris Hybrid specific dashboard

    It comes standard with automatic two zone A/C
    Intruments in front of the driver
    The Toyota Touch Multimedia system with backup camera and cruise control are also standard
    Push button start only in upper level, but keyless entry standard.

    2. Under the hood, the ICE has a nice cover in the Yaris. Does it improve noise reduction?

    One can also see the single arm telescopic wiper on the Yaris and the more conventional wipers on the Prius c!

    3. A picture showing the HV and 12 V batteries packed under the backseat and protected for side impact by a metal harness. The gas tank is just behind and shrunk to 36 l from 42. This image is from a Prius c, but it is like that in the Yaris as well.

    Interesting- I wonder if that nav screen will include the fancy mpg averages and scoring 'game' a la the prius c?

    Seems to have the energy monitor showing in that shot...

    This is par for the course with small cars. You are closer to the outside world and there is less money to spend on NVH intrusion. It is never going to be a ct200h...

    The official European economy rating is 80.7 mpg UK or 67.2 mpg US using the more generous European ratings. It will be one of the most economical cars in Europe and the price, whilst a wee bit high for the type of car, is still affordable and competes well. (note we have 10% import duty and 20% sales tax vat).

    I like the steering wheel in the Yaris Hybrid.

    Steering wheel is the unimportant thing...I think is important.

    IMO it's the point of most direct interaction with your vehicle.

    I love the leather wrapped steering wheel on my Honda Fit. I'm afraid I won't like the steering wheel on a Prius C as much.

    The iQ is 6MT diesel, and thus my drive-long-stretches, make fast U-turns and park anywhere vehicle... ironically, I'm looking for an additional city car for very short distance driving because the diesel can't handle short trips!
    While the prius is great, it is a bit on the large side for European cities. The CT200h is very tempting (cheaper, smaller and better FE than Prius here!), but a small hybrid or EV would be perfect.

    Glad you found my post and replied! For very short distance driving, buying another hybrid or EV would be perfect, you say, so I conclude money does not matter so much. Nothing wrong with that, but otherwise, it would be very expensive. You probably are aware that Toyota will soon launch the iQ EV ?

    Yaris Hybrid price (in the UK) fuel consumption and pictures

    Here is the direct link!

    The price is just under 15000£, all taxes included, but many people will pay extra for 15" alloy wheels and metallic paint. In Germany, it will be just under 17000 Euros.

    Just note the beautifull glass roof that is available as an extra on the High Grade and not on the Prius c.

    In this image, one notes the Yaris is higher and shorter overall and at the wheel base. For me this makes it better adapted to our crowded cities and provides welcome headroom in the back.

    Isn't that front somehow closer to the Prius 3 liftback 2012 then that of the Prius c?

    Also note the single arm telescopic whiper and the cool LED daylight lights incorporated in the halogen headlamps not available on the Prius c! The foglamps are proper to the High Grade model.

    I can only speak for myself, but while reading or viewing comments of Toyota US marketing people, I got the impression they wanted to downplay the fact that the Prius c and the Yaris are very closely related cars. It was as if they wanted to position the Prius c in a higher category, which is indeed clever, but somewhat misleading. I guess it probably is because in the US, the Yaris is positioned as "very small, cheap and affordable".

    To me, it is a pity Toyota does not offer both in Europe, since the Prius c has its own charm, but the facts show both Hybrids belong to the same category of subcompacts, and the Yaris is even in some respects better equipped and maybe somewhat more at home in congested cities.

    And that is the beauty of test driving a car, because things like that pop out. I didn't like the "gritty" feel of the unwrapped Prius steering wheel. That helped push me towards the Package IV or V camp.

    I missed your comment the first time around.
    My own buying habits should never be used as anything but a statistical outlier. I don't need a car at all, living in large European city with great public transport. I find life too short for boring cars and public transport, so I tend to buy whichever car that puts the greatest smile on my lips. The iQ EV is interesting, but Toyota claims the production version is still far away. If the reviews have some kind of hold to them, I might end up with a Subaru BRZ instead!

    I am reading this thread just now...where was I in the past couple of weeks??? ;)

    The new Yais HSD is really attractive. Regarding the price, well, it all depends on TCO, km driven where mostly, real fuel consumption, etc. Just to say that 17k€ is a high price might be a bit misleading - there are things to consider (like road tax, insurance, repairs, etc.).

    Not to mention that fuel is at 1.5-16€/L in Germany, flying at 1.8-1.9€/L in Italy as I type. Fuel costs might well be higher in overall TCO compared to the (supposedly) higher price.

    US readers have to consider that this might be the *only* car for many families (even) with kids, and that the standard configuration offers a lot of features which might well not be standard on competitor's models.

    I am linking also a google translated article from italian Autoblog.it where they are talking about the time the ICE is off, compared to the overall travel time. I don't know the source of this, since I could not find similar official statements from Toyota EU yet.

    Please note, that this is essentially a Prius C with a different shell. The basics, down to the shift lever, are the same. I think the engine cover is more for aesthetics, since the HSD is not considered "cheap" tech and it would not look good to an average EU consumer to open the engine bay and find "that mess" that instead you find in the C (which is no more "messy" than any other car or he Prius itself, honestly speaking). I don't think that a plastic cover will change much of the noise coming from the engine bay at all.

    As for the early reviews, I would wait until they test the final version available to the public. I personally don't like "early" previews on non-final versions.

    PS: too bad I have already a Prius and I would want in any case a bigger car than a Yaris (I also live in somewhat "comfy" Munich, not in a crowded and narrower other EU city), because this would be bought from me in a heartbeat. I wonder how this car would fare in a long 6-7hrs trip criss-crossing EU at 130km/h average on the highway, as wells as 170km/h on the Autobahn... :) (for which this car is clearly not design for!)

    I don't want to offend anyone, but this supposedly "review" of a non-final version of the Yaris HSD is simply useless and rubbish. Let's wait for something a bit more serious back in summer...

    I finished reading also this one - it is a slightly better review than the other one. Still, like most "competent" reviewers out there, they talk about CVT and "rubber-band" effect, without really knowing what they say. I even read once about the transmission "slipping" - on what, I haven't the slightest clue...
    Also I don't like the comparison with "other diesels" and the adjective "super mini". An iQ or a Smart is a super-mini, an Aygo is Mini. The real Mini is now become a boat. These people don't remember anymore what their father, or even themselves, drove just a few years ago? To say that the Yaris is a super-mini hybrid, goes a long way into understanding where the reviewer comes from. Maybe he is used to driving Mercedes class Es, or Golf that are big, but offer no more interior room space than a Punto...they probably never seated in the back seat of a Golf. And moreover, what do the "other diesels" offer in terms of options as standard compared to optional? that would be a more fair comparison, weighing in insurance and tax costs. Or better said, a comparison apple to apples, rather than this...

    You should read the german ones... It seems as if all the reviewers are envious or paid by car manufacturers' lobbies. And show outright no understanding of how the HSD works - none. They never read anything, I wonder if they ever drove anything...
