2010 Prius Fog Light Install [Retrofit]

    Got a PM from Jayvee and I appreciate his quick reply.
    All my questions have already been answered in detail in numerous posts by hawkmoon77 on another thread.
    Bottom line is, running a wire thru the firewall is inevitable in my Prius trim II, because factory connector 2C and relay "FR Fog" is inside the cabin and there is no wire from 2C's pin 8 to the engine room (except in Prius trim V).
    I'll just do just as others did, i.e. use the fog kit's push-button switch mounted beside illumination rheostat on dash.
    In addition I will make my fog light also function as DRL (day-time running light), i.e. will be forced to turn on when vehicle IGN ON and parking brake not engaged, by adding additional relay and diodes. Will share details later when done with install this upcoming long weekend.

    Did anyone else have trouble getting the 82998-24350 terminal into the 2C pin 8? Is there a trick? I could only get it half way in and it finally broke from fatigue so I have to buy another one :mad:

    EDIT: I didn't read Jayvee's instructions well enough and didn't see the locking clip hiding under the black retaining clip. Problem solved.

    Got my OEM fog light kit from SET dealer today. Got 14 pages of instructions for installation. :eek: Foglights has DOT/SAE stamp on it. Instructions include removing part of steering column cover. :noidea:

    That's odd, perhaps they mean the panel just below the steering wheel column. ?

    It's the steering column cover to tap high beam and low beam. Fog lights turns off when high beams are on.

    I did this also but just used some black Rust-o-lium from Walmart.
    Can hardly tell a difference.

    Putting this up for opinions.

    This is for using a one relay for shutting off Fog lights when the High beams are on.

    This is based on a couple of observations most important that the Low Beams are ON when the High Beams are on. alternatively, you could also running lamps in place of the Low Beam lights.

    The circuit is based on the premise that the HI beam filaments are always grounded and power to the bulb is switched off and on.

    The voltage on pin 86 on the relay will be High whenever the Low beams or Running lamps (if used) or ON. Pin 86 will be pulled low with the ground path through the filament in the hi beam lamp. This will then activate the relay turning the fog lamps ON.

    When the High Beams are switched ON. then the voltage at Pin 85 on the relay will be high turning off the relay, shutting off the fog lamps.

    I haven't figured out a way to run 1 wire to a switch in the passenger compartment to turn them off. Yet. I figure the OEM relays to turn the High beam lights off and on are in the engine compartment.

    trying to add all of the harness and sw from the kit is beyond a hassle
    i use a separate relay to run my fog all time (using LED)-- on my profile

    the relay needs a low rest ground,, the filament will prob be too high in rest.

    Got my eBay fog light installed, oem style with wiring harnesses for $50 what a great deal. lol

    Those units probably have the plastic lenses. My experience is they crack very easily by thrown rocks/pebbles. I use the clear plastic headlight film to protect them. Would do that with the glass ones too.

    Sorry for reviving a dead thread, but seemed like a better idea than making a new one for the same issue.

    I just got a fog light kit off Amazon. The manufacturer is WinJet. They provided me with a wiring harness where the wire everyone is plugging in the fuse box for power end in a metal ring that connects to a 12v battery instead of an insert for the fuse box.

    Anyone have an idea on how I can modify this to work with the 12v point in the fuse box? Could I just cut off the ring and put a quick disconnect to plug in to the pin in the fuse box?

    EDIT::
    After doing more poking around, it looks like I may be able to use the 12v terminal in the front left of the fuse box that runs directly to the battery for this. Would this be better than plugging in to one of the open terminals?

    Ended up just using the 12v power terminal under the black cover to avoid cutting up the wire to add a quick disconnect terminal. Seems to be working so far.
