^Lucky! The request for Las Vegas dealerships who are as attune to this problem as that PA dealership is still open.

I'm going to try to reproduce it this weekend. I'll leave it outside 24 hours and then let the ICE run for a minute before shutting it off. Hopefully the knocking will happen when starting it again Monday morning. It may not be cold enough though.

If this works, I will give this procedure to the dealer. They have the new IM, but the gasket is still on order until the 28th.

Update: couldn't reproduce it. Now it's probably too warm to reproduce it again. I'll call the dealer and see if they'll do the intake manifold fix anyway.

Just curious...what did you pay for your IM? I found it online for $200 and shipping. I'm prepared to do it myself if I have to, but no occurrences since visiting the dealer.

Hello dear! just want to apologize for my English!
Periodically read this section of the Forum, had a similar problem on my priuse (sometimes banged engine and has a vibration), but at one point he started pounding when standing still is charging the battery from the engine on the scanner display no error (detonation, misfiring) all sensors work correctly.
It was decided to remove the intake manifold thought see the sea water)
When removing the drain it baths work I haven't found, because it was in my hands I washed Nagar and put into place in expectation of a miracle, but it did not happen!!!
the engine still banged, I began visually inspect the engine and the transmission, at the bottom of the transmission there is a hatch through which you can see the flywheel at the opening of his I saw small chips (aluminium dust) flywheel quickly became clear that died a damper

    a bit of theory:
the Prius torque from the engine to the transmission is transmitted through a damper on 1 and 2 generation Prius damper closes between flywheel and pressure plate, critical loads it may slip

the 3 generation Prius, damper attached to the flywheel bolts, the entire load shall be submitted to the spring
in this case, when you run the engine at -20 low critical loads are resonance (example work as a defective shock absorber suspension car wheels on hitting the pit or an uneven road to jump)
(an example is better suited for Russian drivers, since Russia replacement shock absorber suspension normal)

    I
I promised a checkback after I'd taken my 2010 Prius into the dealer. It's 2/29/12 and I just got back from Toyota South. I brought a copy of the TSB cited at the head of this forum with me. As I mentioned, above, I was fortunate in that I got a check engine light that went out the next day. Their diagnostics showed code P0300, which is "multiple random misfires" along with codes for several individual cylinders (P0302, P0303, P0304). I got no hassle about replacing the IM at no cost. However, the IM is on back-order, regionally. They have to wait on shipment from California, so they weren't sure when they would be able to schedule the repair. So, barring the unforeseen, I guess it's a done deal.

^Any tips on how to get the engine to throw a code? That's all I need.

Can you take these steps (maybe step 3 at this point)? Got this from the Toyota Warranty pdf:

Both Toyota and your Toyota dealer
    are dedicated to serving your
    automotive needs. Your complete
satisfaction is our first priority. Should you
have a problem or concern — either
during or after the warranty period —
please take the following steps to ensure
    the quickest possible response:
    Step 1
Discuss the situation with a dealership
manager, such as the service manager or
    customer relations manager. In most
cases, a satisfactory solution can be
    reached at this step.
    Step 2
If the dealership does not address your
concern to your satisfaction, call the
    Toyota Customer Experience Center at
    (800) 331-4331.
    Please have the following information
    ready when you call:
    • Your Toyota’s vehicle identification
number (located on the driver’s side
corner of the dashboard, under the
    window)
    • Current mileage on your vehicle
    • Name of your Toyota dealership
    A Toyota customer relations representative
will assist you in working with the
dealership to find a satisfactory solution.
    Step 3
If your concern has still not been resolved
    to your satisfaction, Toyota offers
    additional assistance through the Dispute
    Settlement Program, a dispute resolution
    program administered by the National
    Center for Dispute Settlement. The
    purpose of the Dispute Settlement
Program is to resolve disputes through
arbitration — a process by which two
    parties authorize an independent third
party to hear and resolve a dispute. The
program is informal and free of charge. To
request that your case be reviewed
    through the program, complete the
customer claim form in the Owner’s
    Warranty Rights Notification booklet
(found in your glove box) and mail it to:
    National Center for Dispute Settlement
    P.O. Box 688
    Mt. Clemens, MI 48046
If you would like to request a customer
claim form, call the Toyota Customer
    Experience Center at (800) 331-4331.
When you call, please have your vehicle
    identification number, the current mileage
on your Toyota and the names of your
    selling and servicing dealerships.

^Thanks, I did not know about step 3 (RTM, eh? ;)). It's something I can most certainly put into action if I don't trade "up" for a c.

I would think it would be cheaper for Toyota to just fix your car then go through the Dispute Settlement / arbitration process. The cost I saw for my manifold fix through the TSB was $422 on the dealerships paperwork.

Odd. I was told by Toyota that it was the Right Rear Engine Mount that needs to be replaced.. I even went to the dealership today and they will replace the engine mount and not the intake. Confuse as which is the real fix...

Here is what they wrote to me.
There is a Technical Service Bulletin that was issued on December 23, 2011 regarding some 2010-2011 model year Prius vehicles which may experience an abnormal vibration or droning noise gasoline engine after extended cold soak in extremely low temperature conditions until the engine bay begins to warm up. The right rear engine mount has been updated to address this condition.
