Connecting Android to Hands-Free system

    I just switched from a "basic" flip phone with bluetooth (which I had connected to my 2006 Prius' Hands-Free system) to a Samsung Stratosphere with Andrioid v2.3.5.

    I have not been able to get the phone connected with the car's Hands-Free system.

    After my first few tries I realized there was the "Make Discoverable" setting in the phone's wireless settings. I tried again - over and over - according to the car's manual's instructions and have not been able to get the connected.

    I'd appreciate it if anyone could provide any help - preferably with personal experience in getting an Android set up on a car with a similar hands-free system.

    This is extremely important that I get the hand-free system set up with my phone, as I am on the road quite a bit and need to stay **safely** connected while driving.

    Did you remove the old flip phone from the BT settings? I have a Gen 3, but I managed to get mine to work just fine.

    Try this:

    - Remove Old Phone
    - Reboot Car & Phone
    - Go through Car software to connect phone, then use the phone to search for a discoverable device.

    I believe the Prius' handsfree is the "device" the phone is finding. Hope that'll work.

    i have the same phone,and it paired instantly on my 2012. I think your Gen 11 is having a compatibility issue with your new phone.I hope you get it to pair,but I have run into this same problem with a lot of devices of different age,which explains Toyota's little note in my manual stating that note all phones (read "older") will be compatible with the system.

    Bluetooth is not known to be the most reliable technology.

    Generally speaking you place your phone in discover mode and then in the Prius do the search and pair function.

    I could be wrong but I believe older phones and older bluetooth technology might not sync phonebook and such. Also music sync can be limited as well.

    I have the Samsung Galaxy S II and have had no problems at all with all features. I am currently testing out the new Samsung Note and thus far works well but need to resync often.

    Thanks, everyone for your replies.

    Good thought, wick1ert, but yes, I did first remove my old phone from the car's list of connected bluetooth phones.

    whicks3 and shrktank, your responses make me think I may be out of luck. whicks3 has the same phone, but a newer model car, and shrktank is right in that bluetooth can be "iffy" at times in its reliability.

    I may be stretching things here, but what about an app for the phone that may "help" the car recognize the phone more easily?

    If I can get this to work reliably and consistently I'd be willing to a) buy an app, b) do some minor "hacking" of either the phone or the car, and/or c) jump through any other hoops that would get it to work! :)

    Assuming you purchased this phone just recently(within the 30 day return period), you might go back to the store you purchased from and ask them if you can try a Samsung Galaxy S2 (or other) in your car to make sure it works well with the bluetooth. I can assume someone working there has one if they can not open one for testing.

    Did you cycle through to IG-ON like 3 times on the car then reboot your phone to try and pair them? I swear, I had issues with my Thunderbolt when I first got it and tried to pair it. Eventually, I removed all phones, did the IG-ON, OFF, rinse, repeat, etc like 3 times, rebooted the phone, and then it seemed to work.

    I *thought* the phone searched for the CAR, esp since you'll have to tell the phone to auto-connect, insert the passcode, etc. If you were closer, I'd take a look for you.

    My Samsung Infuse 4G android v. Froyo 2.2 connected immediately by following the instructions. I went back later and deleted my previous Motorola RAZR V9. You can pair up to 4 phones on the prius system so unless you have 4 phones already paired, I don't think thats your problem.
    The manual for gen 2 says that the prius bluetooth is compatible with bluetooth v. 1.0 so you may want to check the version of bluetooth on your phone. Not sure it makes much difference, Just a thought since you have a newer phone.
