Danica didn't get hurt, too. Interesting race however.
The new engine management system used in the cars this year is from McLaren and similar to what they use in F1 which I can't wait for it to start March 18.

I could've driven 500 miles in my Prius quicker than it took to finish that race last night.

Recreationally speaking, golf is more accessible than racing. Even a kid can do it. Old people and lots of women can as well.

As for watching either sport on TV, I think there is excitement in both. But personally, I'd rather watch Paula Creamer than Danica Patrick :)

Mitt "Car Guy" Romney at the 500

    http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politi...y-at-Daytona-500.-Shouldn-t-he-be-in-Michigan

OK, his Daytona walk-around itself was yet another example of Mr. Romney’s inimitable stiff bonhomie. When he mixes with regular voters, he reminds us of nothing so much as Prince Charles holding a hot dog: He knows he’s supposed to enjoy it, but he doesn’t really know where to start.

For instance, at one point Romney noted that he does not “closely†follow, as an ardent fan, events of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. But he added, “I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners.â€

Hello Geico, Juan Pablo here, say about my collision coverage, I kinda ran into a Track Truck towing a Jet Engine, yes mam, a Jet, J, E, T, yes. Well yes, I know it's strange to see them flying that low. It was also going real slow, I think it was being towed!
I think the links broke in the back of the car and boy howdy that sure was a ride! Is this going to be covered by my policy? That little lizard guy said I don't need to worry! Well yes it was a work related accident. Was I drinking,? last night? , NO, today, YES!

I really do like the car covers, the rain just rolls off. My poor 4Runner sits in the back, needing to be covered, and I gotta find out who makes those I want one!

Ugh, NASCAR today had become a motorized flea circus.

One upon a time, when the cars were recognizable as modified street cars, and the engine under the hood had the same architecture and perhaps even the same number of cubic inches as the one in the car we could buy at the local dealer's, NASCAR had a much greater appeal.

Remember when the hood had painted on it only the car's number, and the size of the engine? That's when NASCAR was great.

The reason for the restrictor plates and the changes that came after that...

And of course the Plymouth Superbird...

These cars ARE the reason for the rule changes from a production car, to a competition car.

I beg to differ. The high speeds were phenomenal back then, but it was the politics behind NASCAR that changed the series.

Not to mention, the cars changed too.

Don't have strong feelings about NASCAR, but the people that try to drive on the public roads as if it was NASCAR I definitely have objections to.

Smokey Yunick, that Chevelle that didn't look quite right, acid dipped sheet metal, using the tube frame of the car to gain extra fuel capacity...I do not know, NASCAR these days has a big paper band wrapped around the whole thing that says, "sanitized for your protection."

I grew up in a Ford family, and that darn Hemi—and those aero tricks, too, barely homologated for street use—were the bane of my existence.

Still upset that NASCAR let Chrylser get away with those shenanigans, but banned Ford's 427 SOHC "cammer."

Gotta let this stuff go. It's been, what, nearly a half a century?!?

I thought I remember somewhere that Ford won at Daytona... and Mopar won at Talladega...

Hmmm... I thought that stuff was happening around the same time... and the Ford stuff was only on the showroom floor whereas Mopar had to build more than 2000 units to sell to the public for the 69 year I think... and that's why they took more than 3/4 of the races... it wasn't shenanigans Sis... it was engineering within the rules.

I had a couple of Charger R/T's... and I didn't buy a Daytona without an engine when I had the chance once... because the wifey then didn't think it was wise to spend the $2500 for a car without a motor.

    Live and learn...

My friends with Torinos and Talladegas had fine fast rides too... but... it wasn't the big wedge, or the hemi... soooo...
