At first glance, the 2012 Toyota Prius V Wagon strikes us as being indistinguishable from its sibling, the ubiquitous Prius sedan. Both share the same squinty gaze, the same unapologetically functional doorstop silhouette.

They may look similar, but they are very different vehicles. I've owned a 2005 Prius, driven both a 2012 Prius and Prius v, and bought a v. The v seems so much more roomier for both the passengers and for cargo than the regular Prius. The ride, to me, is also more quiet and comfortable. Because of the size I use the v like a mini-mini van. In that capacity, it performs about 95% of the tasks that my Toyota Sienna does. It also is averaging over 50mpg for the type of driving and routes I take. Your results on the mpg will vary.

I am a bit confused! I bought a Prius v in January and I find the ride MUCH worse than my previous 2007 Prius!! I have seen no one comment on this. At highway speeds on SMOOTH pavement the car rides like it is riding on a washboard. And even at low speeds it "shudders" almost continuously. Any advice would be highly welcomed. (The tire pressure is at the manufacturer's recommended 33lb/in2)

From day #1 of purchase, and you let it go until now ?! Take advantage of your warranty before it runs out, the car drives smoothly for everybody else.

Have to agree! Mine rides smooth. Just put first 400 miles on it. Now plan on adding some air to the tires to compare ride & gas mileage.

Jim is he shuddering the transition from the traction motor (battery) to gas engine or mor suspension. Maybe a tire out of round?

Mine rides ok. It's no Caddy but that wasn't what I expected. It's truly an economy car with lots of room. I'm in the north where roads look like Swiss cheese this time of year. W

Wanderer & E.M - Au Contraire, the Prius v (vee) is a “Caddy,†--- A Caddy In A Kimono. Its designed in “vâ€ersatility makes it truly the Euber-Prius that has come down the ways of Toyota Town so far. It is “vâ€ery distinguishable from ubiquitous “Wedge Of Tofu†Prius Hatchback Sedan.

Toyota bolted on the best features of the iconic 2nd Generation Prius, some of which they left out of the 2009½-2012 Next GEN 3G design, and simultaneously deep-sixed the shortcomings of the 3rd Generation Prius design like the “Eye Test†Monochrome-ish MID & HSI. The Euber-Vee has a much improved multi-color Hybrid System Indicator (HSI), Mo’ Betta Multi-Information Display (MID), return of the Full-Color MFD with ENERGY-CONSUMPTION display at the push of a button. What resulted is a fuel-sipping “vâ€inner. :plane:

Catgic posts always crack me up. You have quite a way with words. What I meant by my caddy comment is it doesn't "float" like the last caddy I drove some (many!) years back. Most cars don't ride that way anymore. I do feel road imperfections and also hear them but it isn't excessive or unreasonable. I do wish the steering was a little tighter. It reminds me of the land yacht Olds I learned to drive on. Overall though I love my v. Heck we liked them so much we bought a pair. =). W

It always amuses me to see newbies whose first (and only) post is a bitch. Makes me pretty sure they're just a troll.

I had a 2005 Prius and now have about 2000 miles on the Prius v. The v is much quieter and the ride is a lot better than the 2005 in my opinion. Combine that with more room and 50mpg in my case and the v is a big winner.

Agree that my Bride's Prius v rides MUCH more smoothly than my 2008 Gen II. If the OPs car is riding rough in comparison to his Gen II something is very wrong!
