First of all I would like to thank all of you in the forums, you have been instrumental in my decision to purchase my first Prius!!

I need to know if the Prius I am going to go look at today is a good deal, I am extremely indecisive and don't want to make a bad purchase. The car is a 2010 Prius V with 56k miles and is fully loaded with the exception of the ATP (I really tried hard but cant find one with this equipped). It was a one owner that was bought and sold with all service records done at the original dealership so I know it was taken care of. It is Toyota Certified and the asking price is $19,700, so any help as to whether or not this is a good deal would be greatly appreciated!!

On the surface, it seems like an OK deal to me.

Run a Carfax to make sure, but with 5 bucks a gallon becoming the norm, I would jump on this one! If you don't, I bet there is a line of folk who would!

You're only 4k miles away from losing the Toyota power train warranty. Price seems OK but I personally would look for a loaded level III or IV with less miles in the same price range.

That's the problem in my area (DC metropolitan area) commuters are buying these things like crazy!! I am having to drive 200 miles to even get this one and the carfax is clean.

The only thing that makes me nervous is your title.

You Need To Make A Decision Today!!

Do you? Generally I strive to not make an automotive purchase decision when I feel I'm cornered or MUST make the deal...

It might be a fine deal, it might be a great deal. But have you explored all your options? I'd expect soon an influx of some well cared for Prius being traded in by Prius owners upgrading to the PiP.

Dealerships will always make you feel like you need to make the decision immediately...or should buy YESTERDAY.

If it isn't exactly what you want, or you have reservations? I'd wait. Sometimes in life their might be a situation where you NEED to buy immediately...but if that really isn't the case? Then the only criteria should be are you happy with the potential deal?

If you are happy with it? Then you've made your decision. If you aren't 100% happy or it isn't exactly what you want? I'd wait until you find what you want.

Thanks for the fantastic advice! My dilemma is I just got a great job that is causing me to commute 70 mi each way and I start on Monday. The current car I am driving is a piece of crap honda civic which is fine but I really need to get something else for reliability/comfort. My biggest concern is that because I am putting so many miles on the vehicle and it already has 56k will I ever be able to get my money out in say a year or so if I want to upgrade to a newer Prius. I have had the most difficult time finding a Prius V which is what I ultimately want but I am wondering if I should hold out for lower miles. The NADA value is 21,500 so its definitely not too overpriced I believe.

56k miles is a lot for a 2010, but $19,700 is a really good deal considering the price dealers are still asking for Gen II Prii. See if you can get that price for "out the door" and I don't think you'll be disappointed!!

Just pulled service history, this car has been serviced every 5k by Newark Toyota Scion which is apparently where the car is now since history shows a used car inspection on 2/22/12. Looks like its been well maintained. All maintenance related services minus a new splash shield installed at 47k.

I'd spend $2K more and get a brand new 2011 II leftover, and live without the goodies.

Makes a lot more sense than a 2 year old car with 4 years + worth of mileage.
