It sounds as if Front Bumper Protection is not offered as a Port installed option but is available only as a dealer installed option. Has anybody gotten a quote from their dealer on what this costs? My dealer was not familiar with it and was unable to give me a quote other than the port installed hood protection ($395).

I'd say third-part places would be a lot cheaper. Just look for a place where you can get references. $395 to just cover the hood is way too high in my book. For me, I'm not going to cover mine - just get it re-painted when/if it needs it. I want to be able to polish mine. I just ordered Zaino. There are a lot of threads here on PC about Zaino. I maybe didn't pick the best thread.

The accessory department has sent out a letter that will make its way to your dealer...in the meantime, they provided me with the following info on the dealer-installed part number: DIO accessory (PT907-47126 with headlamp washer, PT907-47125 without headlamp washer).

    Hope it's helpful.

Thanks for the information Erica. I called a couple dealers here in the Bay Area, none of them have that part in their system as an option to order. There is a PT-907-4100 though for the 2012 normal Prius's -- and the cost of the part alone (not including install) is roughly $300. Since they don't know how to get this part, is there someplace else at Toyota that I could talk to that would give an estimate on what the installed cost would be?

Anyone know what the installed price for the bumper protection kit is?

I am having it installed by this company in a few weeks:
Premier Protective Films International (aka Premier Mobile) clear bra, paint protection film, tint, auto tint, safety film, chip paint, kits, custom, car
They have done all my cars in the past and do excellent work, including custom wrapping so you don't see all the edges. The will do the hood, fenders, mirrors (wrapped) and the bumper (normal kit) for about $850.00. If you want the bumper custom wrapped, it about another $350.00. Some might think this a lot, but I have the Blizzard White, which is a three stage paint - and a touch up stick just won't match very well.

Boy prices must of really gone up. When I had my 06 done I paid $400 which also included the door edges and the top of the back bumper.

I'd like to do this as well. Do you know which film they'll be using? Looked on the site but they don't specify.

Interesting, this is the second post I have seen saying that Premier SoCal is not using Prestige.

I had my Prius done by Premier at their NorCal facility and they used Prestige ClearGuardX.

You could be right. I just had it done today-hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors. Looks fantastic.

Does it say on your receipt? I'm curious.

Be sure to use the special clear bra sealant on the film at least every 2-3 weeks or else the film will stain more easily. Any bugs or bird poop should be removed within the same day or else the film will stain, though I've found that stains are usually "bleached out" if you clean up the film and allow it to heat in the sun for a few days.

THe sealant that Premier sells is quite pricey, and I have found the XPEL sealant to work just as well for 1/3 the cost.

Here's pics of the Paint Protection Film as applied on the hood from the Toyota factory...

Film applied to leading edge of fender and front portion of hood (there is a toyota logo printed very finely into the film located on leading edge of fender, which logo is not visible in this photo).

Film was also applied to bottom corner of both rear doors, and a small strip of film was also applied to leading edge of panel next to door seam.

Toyota applies clearcoat over the film so that the film shows a same glossy appearance as the rest of the car...

I put a 3-M double sticky back tape Ribbed Rubber Bumper on my 2005 Prius and it's still there!

I honestly don't know if it really offers any protection, but after seven years there's not noticable cosmetic problems there. I also cut another piece in half and stuck it on the back. This kind of balances out the look and matches up the front nicely. On a blue prius I'd say it enhances the appearance.

This is stuff you can find at an auto supply shop. It was originally meant for side protection for a truck, but it worked well on the Prius.

I think a better option would be the rock/bug deflector that mounts to the hood. I put door edge protectors on my 2012 and I'm thinking side protection would be good, after looking at my 2005. Too many fat sows trying to climb out of their Ford Crown Vics have smacked their doors into the side of my car over the years.

The after market stuff is as good or better than factory and a LOT less expensive.

I noticed that I also have some protection on my bottom rear doors. I did not order any add ons or paint Protection. Anyone else noticed this on theirs?

I have a 2012 PIP with the so-called front bumper protection. Toyota called and is refunding my money. Now i have to find someone to do the job.

That's not why I'm writing, however. I see in your photos (thanks much for that) that your hood protection extends to the front part of your fenders. Mine doesn't! Yes, I am sure. There is film anywhere except on my my hood.

How about other PIP owners? Does yours also have protection on the fenders or is your like mine, with no protection?

Comments and/or advice would be appreciated.

That ppf looks awful on the hood. Without wrapped edges, you will: 1) get nasty dirt build-up along the edges, 2) risk rock chips at the edge.

This is what the hood should look like:

Interesting that you don't have the PPF applied to the leading edge of the fenders - I wonder if anyone else has film applied to just the hood like yours. Do you have film applied to bottom corners of rear doors, too?

Toyota has since made changes to the language of the PPF option, and decided to refund the cost of the PPF for all PIPs built in February - I recently received my refund.

Yep - Toyota did not wrap the PPF underneath the front edges of the hood or fender... I'll have to carefully monitor/clean the leading edges of the PPF to keep it looking good as long as possible...
