New PiP Owners...More data please!!!

    PriusChat was a-buzz with people quoting their driving statistics the first few days (last week) after people started taking delivery of their new PiP PHVs. It was great!

    Now, things are pretty quiet. :( Can anybody now give updated information/data related to their driving statistics (EV miles per charge vs driving style, etc.)?

    (In a week, I'll have all I need to answer these questions myself...my own PiP will arrive! Now, though, I'm still quite hungry to read about other people's experiences).

    I second that. For a car that has had so much anticipation, and curiosity as to how it really performs.....we've not seen much useful info so far.

    Things I'd like to know.....

    How many EV miles will get recharged into the battery over a 40'ish mile HV highway drive. Via normal HSD operation.?

    Can you "glide" in EV mode.?

    How useful is the battery charge indication in HV mode after EV miles are exhausted? Does HVmode operation differ with the level of EV mile s left in the battery.

    How many indicated EV miles will you lose when you travel up a moderate hill, in relation to the actual distance up the hill.

    I'll answer all of this and more in about a month when the second wave of deliveries begin. Changing color on day three, after originally having a confirmed order in the first five minutes put me behind.

    Here's something I found about the charging timer "END TIME". I set the charging to end at 6.30am. Apparently, charging started at 2.16am and ended at 4.19am. It does not seem to perform a good estimate of the required charging duration.

    For tomorrow, I am going to use a "START TIME" timer instead -- at 4am. My off-peak rates end at 7am.

    i set my charge finish time to 6am and it did not charge at all. must have done something wrong.

    Did the green charging LED blink on the display when you exit the car? It should.

    After you have set the time on the charging timer, you need to press the "charge timer" button again to save the setting. If you don't the setting is not saved. I made this same mistake.

    I have not used the timer function yet, but I am charging off a circuit in my garage. Not sure what else is on it, but the car charges in about 2 1/2 hours. When the car is fully charged, it only shows a range of 12 miles. but with some downhill/regenerative braking, I think I am getting about 14 miles.

    Was that on 120V or 240V?

    FWIW - The LEAF is notorious for finishing the charge 1-2 hours before the end time when only using an end time for charging. People using that method typically just set the end time later.

    Can any PiP owners confirm how much current the car pulls on 240V and also take some good pictures of the supplied 120V EVSE?

    Yes, you can initiate and monitor the charge from your smartphone. But only through the Enture app on the Advanced model.

    I havent done a 40 mile drive anywhere yet.

    Ever since you explained it to me with the images n' all, I've been trying to do this. I want to say Yes, you can glide. But I think I need to keep trying to know for sure. But I tried to keep it in that glide "range" on the HSI today and I didnt see the EV range going down. I tried watching the Energy screen but that thing always seems to be moving the green "energy" one way or the other (never stops?).

    I don't think there is any difference between HV mode whether there is EV range left or not. But I've only put on about 250 miles so far.

    Accelerating hard or going up a hill, I do notice the EV range drops much more dramatically. I'll try to get a "hill climb" on video today if I can. I have a section of road in mind.

    Yes, I can't wait until all you past Prius owners get yours. I hope to learn much more from you guys.

    9G Man,

    Can't answer all these questions as I am not a Hybrid techie like many of you on here so please forgive my initial comments to your questions.

    1) Can't really answer the 40ish mile question as we live in a hilly area. What I can tell you is that I lose about 1.5 miles driving up a .7 mile hill but the good news is I gain it all back and then some driving down the mountain! Very, very cool.

    2) You can certainly glide in EV mode. Not only that, the EV can actually RECHARGE while doing it! Did not know it would be able to do that! Can't imagine what this will look like someday when the battery can hold a longer charge but I'm not complaining!

    3) Think my wife will be able to make a 14 mile drive to work on EV only due to this glide/downhill action. Of course, might pay for it on the way home but so what!

    Really, really impressed with this car and technology.

    Followup on my stats this past week:

    Lifetime: EV: 18% 77mi 18kwh HV: 82% 341mi 6G Fuel Saved 1.5G
    418.4mi Cons. 63mpg Avg 25mph

    Today: EV: 23% 12mi 2kwh HV: 77% 39mi 0 G Fuel Saved .2G
    51.6mi Cons:. 73mpg Avg 26mph

    Shows 153mi remaining with 4/10 on the fuel gauge

    I detect a note of sarcasm....

    BTW, my Blackberry works just fine for the Phone and media player profiles, including automatic loading of the contact lists for the phone and playlists for the music. Also does prompting to read text and e-mail messages, which I may try to figure out how to turn off. It's just the Entune application itself that isn't supported on my new Blackberry.

    so no way for direct link from web then?? well that would suck. my droid did not become compatible with Carwings (Leaf interface) until about 5-6 months ago so i was just using the browser to access the website directly.

    a bit slower, but still got the job done. as far as BB's; used them for years, but i cant swim so had to jump ship for another platform. i don t miss it a bit

    Is traffic that bad in CA?

    Come to Sunny Upstate NY and enjoy the Finger Lakes Wine Country and open roads to work and back.

    My PIP just got to Newark, NJ and should be here in 7 days.

    You are doing very good, beating EPA figures!

    18 kWh / 77 miles = 23.4 kWh / 100 miles. That's like getting 144 MPGe when running on electricity.

    341 miles / 6 gallons = 56.8 MPG when running on gas.

    You saved 1.5 gallon of gas with the 18 kWh electricity charged from the plug. Hmmm... 33.7 kWh is the equivalent electricity for a gallon of gas.

    Overall, you are getting 64 MPGe. It is better than the average Volt owners are getting (62.8 MPGe).

    6 gallons of gas + 0.534 gallon equivalent (18kWh) = 6.534 gallon equivalent over the total of 418 miles. 418 miles / 6.534 gallon equivalent = 64 MPGe.

    actually that is normal suburban driving at 35-40 mph. remember the clock does not stop while sitting at red lights
