johnahaley, I think you were right to begin with! The Cetus Leader arrived in Benecia today and is scheduled to arrive in Long Beach on Friday. Since the Pyxis is scheduled to arrive in Benecia very late on the 14th, it will probably make it to Long Beach by the 17th (or even late on the 16th?).

Edit: Corrected the arrival port for the 14th.

PYXIS is going to BENICIA not PORTLAND and then on to LONG BEACH
ETA in BENICIA: 2012-03-14 23:00 UTC that's 4 pm PDT (UTC -7 hrs)
Another ship I tracked, Arrived in Long Beach 3 days, 6 hrs after it docked in Benicia. If PYXIS holds the same schedule, it should dock in Long Beach at 10 pm PDT on the 17th.
My car is on the PYXIS, so I'm watching it.

Jbrad4 and Jamesburke have been great on getting the ship data out. Mine's on Heijin slated for Benecia on 3/11 hopefully Long Beach a couple days later. :)

How do we know that ships leaving the port at Toyohashi, like the Century Highway 2 above, are carrying Plug in Hybrids? The Tsutsumi plant where the Prius is built is 42 road miles away from there. There are other ports available which are closer to that plant.

On the point that the Century Highway 2 may be going on from Portland to the East Coast, it was in the port at Toyohashi for three days and did not call at any of the other ports in Japan which suggests that it has a full load of just those vehicles available at the Toyohashi port. Both the limited variety and the number of vehicles aboard suggest that this ship MAY be going on from Portland with a partial load.

All Japanese made Toyota, Lexus, and Scions ship from Toyohashi as do most if not all JDM vehicles. Ships may also carry industrial equipment. Ships headed to the US/Canada carry only Toyota brands vehicles. Ships loaded at Toyohashi headed elsewhere in the world may carry a mix of manufactures like Honda and Subaru. I track a number of these also.

Most of the ships we are following run regular service routes. They offload Toyota's at the same ports but may take on cargo for delivery on the return trip. Sunbelt Spirit has reefer decks for Florida citrus headed to Asia from Port Canaveral for example.

I think we have (not just me) good handle on how the shipping gets done. 3 plus years now since Gen III rollout.

Thank you James, I could not locate an online explanation. I learned that my PiP was built on 2/28 and that it was due for shipping on 3/6. The nearest port in the U.S. is Portland, OR, so there is a chance that my car is on the Century Highway 2!

I did see that there is a highway along the west side of the plant at port Toyohashi along the canal which goes to a rather formal looking gate at the back of the parking area. This could be for vehicle trucks moving cars for port delivery. And I noticed that the parking area at this port is larger than that at other nearby vehicle plants. The vehicle parking area at Tsutsumi is really small by comparison (and surrounded by high walls so you can't see inside!) .

Your confirmation gives me the added information which I need.

    James,
Any idea which ship my car may be on? Car was built on 2/27 and left 3/3. It is headed to Maryland but I live in Wisconsin so I am trying to get a little tighter delivery window to plan my flight and long drive back.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

    David

I was curious how long the ships normally stay out of range ? My car is on the HEIJIN and it's been out of range for almost 10 days now. Anyone have any insight to when it might get back in range ?

Same as mine, shipped on 3/3 to Coleman in MD. It is on the Rio Grey heading to Panama right now.
You can verify this like I did by calling the dealership and asking them to pull up your car in their system. They can see the vessel name and number it is on.

It takes about 13 days for the ships to cross the Pacific from Japan to Benecia. The Heijin will probably be back in range around Saturday, maybe even tomorrow.

My car is ordered from Coleman as well! Trying to figure out when to book my flight to pick it up.

    Thanks for the Ship info!

If you look at this world map:Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions

You will see a number of green squares. Those are the areas which are "in range". The shortest distance from Japan (called a "great circle" route) actually passes through the Aleutian Islands for ships coming to the West Coast of the U.S.
