our utilities already get enough of a tax break along with greatly reduced access to government funded public use projects. do you think we would have the Bonneville Power admin if WA State had to pay for it??

Douglas County, WA pays $.0202 per Kwh based on that benefit. (no its not a misprint. ya, TWO CENTS...ya thats right!!)

its the billions saved that allowed local utilities to build a much much much smaller hydroelectric projects to bolster their bottom line.

its pathetic that educated people like him is acting that way. he is fully aware of the benefits of EV driving and he is only worried about saving his own nice person despite the fact that he already has enough money that his great grandkids are already set.

but that is Congress. they are nothing but puppets for the real power of Big Corporate Money. i find it ludicrous to blame Obama for the budget deficit or Bush or Clinton (oh wait! he balanced the budget...once) when they really had nothing to do with it

we hear about the Pork Barrel highlights but that is only the tip of the iceberg. the full depth of what is really going on is too much for the general public to bear. it would be an instant revolution and everyone in Congress knows it so many dont like it (Yes!! there are a few good people there!) but dare not speak up

The link no longer works. Guess why :D

In their defense letter they claimed (again loosely translated):
 I'd say they have not been informed well by Opel/Chevrolet.
Or is this a case of plausible deniability?

Any techies out there that can confirm/deny that the Volt/Ampera really IS an all electric car?

The specifically state this on their website and advertisments ("100% electric")

I thought I remember reading on here (but can't find it fast enough) that there is a mechanical link between the ICE engine and the drivetrain?
If so, I'll get this fixed on their site too :mod:. Starting to look like my personal vendetta against the Volt, where in reality I love the idea, even despite its discussed shortcomings, for me it just has one big issue: it has one seat too little... :(

Through Google translator and some tweaks of my own:

It is not all electric its a phev, specifically an erev. That is under most circumstances it will run as an electric until the battery is low, then act like a hybrid. The exceptions are very cold temperatures, and in Europe the driver can select hold which puts it in hybrid mode.

Yes, in one mode a clutch closes to mechanically link the engine to go in a parallel/serial hybrid like the Prius.

I never trust that for technical details. Hope this information clarified.

I know, but I didn't want to translate from scratch. So using Google and fix some errors is faster than doing it all myself.
Thanks for the info! Not sure I want to travel the route of having it stricken from their advertisment again. Then again, they are simply (and blatantly!!!) lying to their (potential) customers. :(

    I found this quote
here. But if you or anybody else knows of an official Chevrolet document that states this, this would make it much easier...

it is PHEV since petrol engine can directly power the wheels. everything else is simply a lie from GM PR.

Of course, there is no point in EREV anyway... it is going to be less efficient, it is just some marketing speak trying to convince people Volt is superior to Prius, even though the fact that it could be EREV is actually worse for the mileage, as we know now.

EREV is a marketing term. In term of engineering it is a subset of HEV. To be specific, it is a subset of PHEV. The correct engineering term should be ERPHEV or ERHV in short.

I don't have a chevy press release, but IIRC they read things like this and clarified the clutches could close to put it in parellel/serial hybrid mode as low as 35mph/
Chevrolet Volt Hybrid Drive System - General Motors Volt Powertrain - Popular Mechanics
You made that post as if I was telling a lie. In which case you should re-read what I wrote, and if you do you will notice your post adds nothing but confusion.

You should undrestand the difference between the two kinds of PHEVs - EREV and blended instead of spreading misunderstanding. An EREV will operate in all electric mode until the battery is depleted to a certain state of charge, while a blended mode PHEV will blend in gasoline when higher speeds or power levels are called for. In the case of the volt, the engine will also turn on in very cold conditions to warm the battery and cabin. Efficiency should be judged not by some prejuduce but by testing. When it comes to these cars YMMV, but if electric driving is improtatnt the key stat is the volt gives you an EPA charge depletion range of 35miles, while the prius phv gives you 11 miles of range and requires both electricity and a little bit of gas for that distance.

A good summary and lots of supporting detail can be found on an older thread. Read my post at the following link and the 2 posts after that also contain a 36 minute YouTube video showing a GM briefing for the automotive media on how the powertrain works and some additional off-site links to graphs from a technical paper describing typical behavior of the Volt/Ampera transmission under different wheel speeds and torque demands.

Feel free to ask additional questions after looking at that material.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying. There needs to be a term to separate blended and electric only unitl battery depleted PHEVs. These two things are the difference I was trying to convey. I have never read ERPHEV or ERHV, is there some body that uses them, or are they your proposal.

EREV is on CARB, EPA, GM, and Fisker documents. It even is on an emblem on the karma. It does stem from a marketing term, but so do many items. We often say klenex, which is a brand name instead of the generic facial tissue. If there is an easier to understand well used term than EREV, I will be sure to use it. I clearly in my post put that EREV was a type of PHEV.

It is my proposal. Volt's EPA label says it is a PHEV. CARB certificate said "Plug-in Gasoline Electric Hybrid".

There is a way to differentiate between the blended and Volt type plugin. EPA label clearly shows the Gasoline+Electricity Range vs. All Electric Range. Both are PHEVs.

There is no need to confuse everyone with the "EV" in EREV.

As I clearly said PHEV also. EPA in their discussions of the two different stickers talked about the EREV PHEV one, as used on the volt, and the blended one as used on the prius. These are clearly two different things. If there is a better term, as I said I will use it There is even a third type of phev that carb has proposed the BEVx, which they define as an EV with range extender(x) engine too small to fully power the car, but allows it to limp home or to a plug. I see confusion in people thinking these are the same thing, as noted by spwolf's comment on this thread.

I don't think many are really confused that the volt has an engine and uses gasoline. There is anger over some of the false claims, but really. The cat is out of the bag, these are PHEVs - plug in hybrid electric vehicles. The prius phv gets an electric vehicle tax credit.
