The current Prius already has the exhaust heat recovery system (just not the updated one). We don't know if Toyota will update the 2012 with the updated equipment in the v (the inverter and battery have been updated too). My guess is no for the purposes of keeping costs down. They'll incorporate it in the next major redesign.

I know the current Prius has a EHRS but i was hoping for the updated one .
I guess you are right, and they would have probably announced it by now .
    Thanks for answering !

Toyota tends to experiment and then carry over the stuff that works...

For example, the coolant thermos idea was updated with the exhaust heat recovery. They experimented with a pressurized tank on the HiHy (you had an electronic fuel cap door release button and it may ask you to wait a few secs before it opens it). The 2007 TCH brought in a smaller inverter (half the size of the 2004 Prius) and different packaging (because it was a sedan) for the battery and battery vent.

2010 brought us the EHRS and CEGRS along with a liquid-cooled inverter and a repackaged battery cooling system for more cargo space

2012 brought us the revised battery packaging in the v, the updated inverter and the pitch & bounce system

From what I see, 2012 seems to go back a basic sound system, except for the premium units with HDD navigation and probably the JBL with greenedge, and likely only available in the 4 and 5 trims.

The 2011's w/ JBL had a nice little audio amp under the front passenger seat and the 8 speakers. So, the 2012 2 and 3 audio should sound a little anemic. Not that it can't be modded, but it takes some work to install upgraded sound, and can be a couple thousand $ for premium work at a shop, for whoever wants some 3rd party messing with their Prius.

ah well, it's only a sound system.

The Prius 4 description doesn't add up. They are bundling the HDD and JBL with the sunroof? Doubt that. I think the HDD / JBL will be a package, and sunroof will be seperate or bundled with something like advanced tech package.

bundled. called the Deluxe Solar Roof package (to distinguish it from the Three SR package). It's the SR plus HDD and HUD). I believe JBL GreenEdge is standard on a Four

Has anyone ever seen the new black dashboard in real life ?
Is it really textured as it is shown on videos ( Plug-in vehicle tour ) and pictures at toyota.com ?
I would really like that, because it seems to upgrade the used hard plastic vs. the "old" version of the gen 3 Prius hard plastics !
I know is still hard plastic but it seems to look much nicer !

It looked the same to me - the leaf vein motif on the dashboard.

Looking at the 2012 Technology package (Canada) I notice that the "water repellent" front windows are deleted too.

2010/11 Leather is now 2012 "Softex"
    2010/11 IPA is now deleted
    2010/11 Water repellent windows deleted.
2010/11 base aluminum wheel (was silver) is now painted black with a "flower" look to the wheel cover.
For the 2012 Tech pkg in Canada, $3315 has been removed from the 2010/11 price tag to make it $34,080. What else has been removed to make the price difference?

In Canada, we can only get dark Grey as an interior colour, no other option offered. Does that make my 2010 Blizzard pearl over Bisque a collectors car in Canada?

The new 2012's on the dealers lot have the "all season mats" bundled with the regular carpet mats. The new all season mats seem to be hard, slippery rubber.

2011 had the Parking Assist feature; 2012 does not and instead has HUD.

The Canadian Tech Package doesn't even have HUD in its place. The 2012 U.S. version does though.

We lost illuminated vanity mirrors as standard equipment but bluetooth and backup camera are standard on the base model as is the 6.1" Display Audio system.

For the Tech Pack, I think we lose the illuminated door sills and footwell lighting as well. The DVD-based nav system is replaced with a high res 7" HDD-based nav system (this one is pretty costly compared to the DVD-based).

We don't have Entune or Safety Connect in Canada (don't really miss Safety Connect imo but Entune is pretty cool, esp. Bing search which broadly expands your navigation POI database since you can search for things and navigate there instead of relying on your map's POI database).

As said above, we don't get the HUD.

It was very nice to have this news early, before this info could be found elsewhere.

Now it's clear that some of the information in the original post or news story is no longer accurate and that more accurate information is available elsewhere. Having this thread prominently come up as a sticky is misleading to many and only adds confusion now, especially for people just starting to shop for a 2012 Prius.

Can the first post in the thread or the first be edited and corrected using information that is now available?

Can the sticky status be removed from this thread?

Can the title me amended to "2012 MY Prius - Early Speculations about Changes and Additions"

Can a new, clean thread be started titled 2012 Prius - Confirmed Changes and Additions

Here in Australia, we now get our top model with the works.......17" wheels (but no spare); sunroof/solar panels; IPA; Radar cruise; HDD Nav/JBL audio with DAB; power/heated/leather seats; reversing camera; led headlights; power fold-in mirrors; auto lights/wipers; HUD; etc.
We also get this new colour that I believe the US does not get....Scarlet. However, we are now restricted to just the dark grey/black interior trim.

I tried some Kit Kat from Japan and the whole candy was olive green in color but still had some chocolate taste. I'd imagine the American general public would be put off by that and hence not sold here. Same thing with purple cars.
