Curious of experiences by anyone coming over to a Prius from a Corvette.

Having come over from a 2004 Corvette Z06 (405HP) to a 2010 3rd Gen Prius, there's a number of similarities here oddly enough.

Both cars are well engineered for their purpose. The Z06 optimized for extreme performance including weight reduction and innovative materials (balsa wood, magnesium, Al, polymers), independent double-wishbone suspension, weight distribution (tranny in rear), and power. The Prius highly optimized for efficiency (you all know). I see these 2 cars as opposite ends of a spectrum, performance and efficiency - form follows function. Others vehicles seem like a compromise and not as passionately engineered.

Finally, they are actually both "fun". It's just the definition of fun is changed; optimizing your performance runs versus efficiency runs :)

I have a 2006 C6 and a 2010 Gen3, both do what they are supposed to do very well.

I had a S2000, NSX, and 911 now have a Prius, and Honda Insight 1 Gen.

The 1st Gen Insight was purpose built. Aluminum frame, light weight materials, shape is funny looking (but Honda did not compromise on that too). It was designed and built to have the best gas mileage. I believe it still holds that title after 12 years. Not many cars can claim being the best at what it was built for, for that long a time. fastest quarter mile, 0-60 etc... So far it's still the best at what it does.

I sold my '90 ZR1 Corvette in '09. ( RIKLBLOG - Selling Out ) I bought my first Prius in '05, and found I was using the 'Vette less and less. Worse, MUCH worse, I found I was driving it like I do the Prius! If one is getting 25mpg from a Corvette, it's pretty much going to waste.

I haven't gone from 'vette to Prius but I do agree with everything you say. I pulled up next to a new Camaro yesterday and got funny looks from the kids inside. I was thinking to myself, your car is engineered for performance and so is mine. Its just a different kind of performance. I have always wanted a muscle car but now, I don't. I always watch PowerBlock TV on Spike (still to this day) and I now find myself wanting them to do a Prius PHEV conversion to maximize mpgs (a performance measure). They make mods to cars for performance and so do we. Its just that our definition of performance is different.

From a 2000 C5 to a 2005 Prius then a 2012 Prius and I agree with all of the above.

    Congrats--enjoy.

Prior to my Prius, I had the pleasure of driving many high performance and luxury cars (no Corvettes--but several Porsches & BMWs, and a Mercedes E55 AMG, to name a few), and--like so many things in life--it's all about expectations.

My expectations for a car now are much different than years ago, and the Prius fits the bill perfectly--though clearly it would not have for many years of my driving experience. :p

I have a 1964 Series IIA 88" Land Rover and a Gen. 3 Prius package five. I like them both, but they have nothing in common. :)

I have a 2006 C6 and a 2011 Gen 3. I agree they both do what they are supposed to do very well! Only trouble is I don't drive the Vette enough now. I can use the carpool lane with my Prius so I use it to get to work and back every day. Then on weekends I find myself driving the Prius to save gas. I'm only driving the Vette once a week. Such a waste of a great car.

I've had 2009 BMW M3 before this and I bought this car because it was a lot more practical than my M3. It was a great car but I really don't miss it that much. Prius is a perfect car for just A to B daily driving. I'll pick up another sports car eventually but I'm pretty damn content with this car!

My old C5. Stock except Z06 exhaust and Blackwing filter. Runflat tires were HORRIBLE!

I agree 100% with everything above. Came from an Sbuaru Impreza WRX/STi, awesome drive train, the Prius just as awesome with PSD!
