I am shopping for a new car - want a hybrid or a PHEV. Not lucky enough to be in a state with PIP available. So my debate is a Four with solar and HUD or a v Five with ATP. Any input is appreciated as I have bounced back and forth between the 2 models. Thank you.

Depends on what you want... Note the following thought:

Prius with the Solar Roof will have solar venting for hot days if that is an issue and you are parking mostly in the sun versus in shaded areas.

The Prius v Five with ATP will have a larger cargo area, the passenger area is a bit bigger and higher, but you will suffer a 10 mpg ding in comparison to the standard Prius.

The ATP package includes a bigger Nav Display (7.1), Advance Parking Guidance System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Harmon/JBL Greenedge Speakers.

Without knowing what you really want or looking for, can't give you better input beyond that the Prius v will have a bit more drag, but also a bit more momentum due to weight difference.

Thank you for your response - solar roof attraction is the HUD and my dog can stick her head out the roof. With the v she will have to settle for window or none in the cargo area. I like the visibility and the dash of the v but the mileage of the regular Prius. Think I just need to test drive both again.

Far more knowledgeable people here, but I don't think she will be able to stick head out of the moon roof.

Well, I think Reachk was more referring to an actual open window in the back or none at all with the cargo area. I know with the Prius v, there have been people recommending the dog hammock accessory. If you are a dog owner, the two options have always been either a kennel cage enclosure in the cargo area, which no one has a window opening or rear seat area with the window open (Some will also drive with the dog in their lap (REALLY BAD IDEA) or in the passenger side seat).

I would be a bit hesitant to have your dog sticking its head out the sunroof, but then again, the likelihood of something particularly nasty happening to them on the roof part is as likely as sticking their head out the window. The only other con is the ability to do so without causing some obstruction to your rear view mirror. But again, up to you how you want to keep your dog happy. The solar option, however, would be a better choice for keeping the car ventilated, however, since the Prius v does not have that option. I will say, though, the Prius will also have more 'radiant' reasons for needing the ventilation, as you have 2 greenhouse like glass areas (Windshield and rear window) versus the Prius v.

If I can locate the v5 w/atp I will go with that. Think it may be a 8-12 week wait. Thank you again for the links and replies.

UPDATE: I ordered the v5 w ATP and it will be 4-6 weeks from April 12 -There were no v5 only v3 and v2 in my area and they are very abundant.

Thank you all for the input and this is the best forum I have seen.

Enjoy your Prius v 5. I know after 7+ weeks with my car, I have been enjoying it, only 2 fuel ups so far with the car. Also, be mindful of the weather, if it is a bit chilly, don't be surprised if your mpg is a little lower than 40, as my first fill up was around 33 and even in California, there are some cold times.

Take some of the driving tips from catgic's link I have in my signature, it helps out a lot in getting the most out of your car's mpg.
