Re: What is up with all or the Prius Hate ??? This is so me right now. Can't wait to sell the Jeep and get my Prius. 16.5 mpg is making a dent on the pocketbook and the environment. Maybe someday I'll have the option of a hybrid Jeep
At $5/gallon for gas; it isn't hate. It's Prius-Envy to be PC, but I like to equate it to the other P-Envy. As gas prices go north of $5/gallon, I'd be more worried about my Prius being stolen.
I am a new prius driver and I was one of the people who hated prius's. My background is owning a full size dodge truck,Ford F-350 diesel then a Range rover sport.and now a prius. Now back to my story I always loved the fact that toyota made a great car and the Prius was no exception. But living in Socal most Prius drivers are self righteous buttheads. They all drive like the just stole their prius weaving in and out of traffic or using the carpool lane alone (yes I know they had the stickers).A lot of the prius driver are very rude and change lanes without using there signal, speeding all over the freeway. This is why most people hate prius. It is not the car but the owners. I own a prius now and love it and I may always own one in some form. I try to drive respectfully and don't follow to close or weave in and out of cars or cut others off to get ahead by one car. Flame away but some times the truth hurts.
I think is the main reason for the hate. I have purposely turned off the display that shows the average gas mileage just so I don't start driving too slowly! I know before I bought my Prius I would NEVER follow a Prius because they would not keep up. Now that I have a Prius, I still don't follow other Prii because they won't keep up!
That's funny. You just described 90% of the large truck owners, riced out Hondas, and BMW drivers in my area. The trucks are the worst. Lifted on large tires and flying by at 80+mph. I used to be one of them. I was an nice person.
Re: What is up with all or the Prius Hate ??? Volt hating is a bit more understandable from a "statism gone wild" perspective, given the bailouts to GM that have helped to produce a car that only the well off can afford, along with the recent plant shutdowns...
So, from my out-of-state perspective, except for the carpool lane, they are just typical SoCal drivers!
The Prius is a high profile car, which is fun. Then again, it is . . . JUST A CAR. I love it how a few of my friends followed this trajectory: 1) hate 2) curiosity 3) always requesting that I drive 4) purchase 5) ENLIGHTENMENT I'm sure that I would have received an equal amount of hate if I purchased the other option 4 years ago . . . which was a BMW 335i.
I've seen the hate pages like 'I hate Prius' on facebook .... what's with the diesel smoke outs anyway? They turn on some kind of mode and belch out black smoke like there's no tomorrow. Geez I think if they're that in love with exhaust and combustion, how 'bout they just stand in the middle of the smoke cloud and take some nice deep whiffs of it.
I briefly visited one of the Prius hate FB pages and found this..." if there's a traffic jam up ahead it's bound to be a Prius causing it", that one made me laugh. Spend a few hours on the 405 freeway, you'll quickly learn its not Prius drivers slowing things down...how about, everyone on their cell phones, women putting makeup on...sorry ladies, but it's a fact, I've even seen someone doing a crossword puzzle on their steering wheel, and the best was a guy with his laptop open on his dashboard, one hand on the wheel...and the other hand on the keyboard. One thing I've noticed in my brief Prius ownership...other drivers seem to make a little extra effort to get past you quickly, because your in a Prius they assume you'll be driving slowly... I drive my v3 like any other car I've ever owned when in traffic, I keep up... if I'm on city streets and have an opportunity to glide up to a stop light I'll do it. The extra grief you get from shithead LA drivers while your trying to get an extra mile or two per gallon just isn't worth.
Sounds like the BMW and Mercedes drivers in NY. In every major traffic accident in NY, there is always a wrecked BMW or Mercedes in the middle of it all.
In reference to Prius drivers, you say "they all ... " drive impolitely. Then you say that you, a Prius driver, drive politely. If one statement is true, the other can't be true. I don't know if you are a polite driver, although I'm certain that many, perhaps most, Prius drivers are polite drivers.
Weird, I thought the typical Prius stereotype is a slow driver. I do know that my Prius about the fastest thing around here as the SUVs and pickup trucks crawl to save gas. I used to be one of the slower ones just short time ago and my driving didn't change (up to 10MPH over speed limits).
Just watch the news as they report people's angst when filling up their SUV, paying $80 to $100 to fill-up. What are they driving? Why aren't they being asked; why do you drive the vehicle you have and then complain about the cost of gas? Usual suspects being interviewed are younger, working age people who appear to be spending a significant portion of their income for the privilege of the type of transportation they drive. (purchase, fuel, insurance, etc) You don't see many retirees complaining because most don't drive nearly as much as they did while working. Most agree paying more for energy efficient light bulbs to save a few pennies per day on electricity, which adds up over time, but then turn around spend more $ for a gas hog when majority of time while it's driven, there is only the driver in it. I also don't buy BS about needing a large SUV because of 2 kids, etc. My god, how did I ever make it this far when my parents had a mid-sized station wagon with an efficient 6 ICE?
From an in-state but out of area perspective I totally agree. It sort of freaks me out when I go down there. The San Francisco Bay Area is not much better.
That is the EXACT reason to why I ended up with a Prius. It has plenty of energy for a quick overtake or speedup to motorway etc. And the price was low, compared to the extended feature list - probably because most people are worried about service costs, battery replacements etc. I read up on it and saw that there wasn't really much to be worried about.
Some do. That is exactly how retarded some of them are........ The funny part is, most of the people projecting so much hatred of the Prius and other hybrids are the same people who celebrate diesels and smoking people out. So let's see, the Prius causes no harm to anyone but these asshats run around polluting, wasting resources, costing taxpayers money, reducing national security, getting American soldiers killed, ruining peoples heath and directly attacking people on roadways. How in the F&*^ did this kind of behavior not only become acceptable but dare I say cool? Paste "diesel smoke people out" into your Google video browser.
