Well after some texting bimbo cut me off and I had to slam on the brakes real hard, I get a triangular red light with a ! in the middle and a check engine light come on. Also, the mfd now has a caution light and none of the usual displays. Will these lights reset themselves? How long? What do I need to do?

Well all seems okay now that the car has been driven a bit that the engine has gone through a few on-off cycles and all the lights have disappeared.

Check to see that your brake fluid level is not low.

Check you engine oil level and all the other fluid levels while you're at it.

    +2 check the fluid level.

Also check for leaks cap/reservoir seals and brake pads. On some cars brake fluid reservoir is small, the lights get triggered when the brakes about to go out

Thanks for the feedback guys. I hadn't thought about checking the fluids but that makes sense. I'll go out and check them now.
