Thanks, and by the way great mpg's for
a new car breaking in.

If you know, what was you mpg gauge reading?

Was it close to your calculated figure
of 61.42?

so I just filled up last night.. and with a majority of the tank being highway.. the car calculated it to be about 51 mpg...

also inputted into fuelly, and it showed up as 50.2 mpg.. i'm thinking it could've been the pump i was at.. who knows.. but typically on a morning commute, the mpg's will be around 50 or so... still not bad.. had a little bit of aggressive driving thrown in that first tank too.

still a massive improvement from the car i traded in.

We also noticed over-reporting so I started checking reported MPG versus actual (odometer miles and gallons purchased). To assure good numbers (I'm a math prof), I weighted reported MPG by odometer-given distances for each fill. Over 5,935 miles, the reported MPG is 47.9. The actual is 45.5. Since this covers 21 fills, the variance caused by incomplete fills is insignificant.

Is anyone concerned about systematic over-reporting?

Yes but this is the Prius c forum so we don't know what the average variance is yet. See the GenIII main forum for a thread on a call to action on the topic.

The GenIII and GenIII variance is well documented in those forums. :)

To me its nice to know if the Prius C is
reporting accurate mpg's on the gauge.

Our 2010 Prius is off consistently 3 - 3.5 mpg
over reading.

Only time will tell if the Prius C is accurate
within < 1% in accuracy.

First fill up of my Prius C after 366.3 miles

46.9 MPG according to the Fuelly website

The car was reporting 44.6 MPG, so the car was actually getting 2+ MPG better than its computer was reporting.

I'd post the URL of my Fuelly page, but I haven't made enough posts yet. It's the Prius C under the user Deckofmanythings.

Thanks for your post. Interesting that the computer
is under reporting. Please keep us posted
and let us know if the next tank has the same
under reporting error.

I filled up today, the car indicated 53.4 mpg's. With 433.9 miles and 8.463 gallons it equals 51.27 actual mpg's. That's a little over half highway and the rest city. That's close to 4% off on the computer's reading.

1st commute today! 50 miles out: 53mpg, and 50 miles home: 48mpg (indicated). Many hills, 84/100 miles= 65 mph highway with some steep grades, 16/100 miles secondary roads.

Was this just on one trip Crebble?? I think you get a more accurate average when using an actual full tank of gas from beginning to end. Great numbers though!!

Ok so here are my numbers after fill up. I filled up to one auto stop at the pump and did not overfill. Drove 440.6m and put in 8.635G so im getting 51.1mpg and the computer showed 52.9 from trip reset at the fill up. The refill was also not overfilled after the pumps first stopped to insure accuracy. I would say about 75% was HWY and the rest city. I live on a hill and that's a bummer and the city is called Woodland Hills haha so these inclines and hills in and out of the Valley the city is in suck for max MPG. With that said I wish I was getting 60mpg but I still think getting what I man for a HWY ratting of 46mpg is still amazing. Also, about the computer begin incorrect? How do we know how accurate the pump is a better question?

UPDATE

I also was using ECO Mode and did use the heated seats and AC and Heater at times.

Hey whats up.

I am new to the forum, I bought a Prius C 2 last week and it only has 190 miles. Anyways I have achieved several times 99.9 mpgs the longest on a trip for 25 miles to work, I live in CT and as you know is full of cliffs so it might be harder to achieve those numbers than if you live in a flat state but I have achieved such results several times now in 50+ mph roads as well as 20-35 mph roads. As you know its pretty hard to do hypermilling in hill roads so I don't do it often, but I like to stay on the 1/4 part of the dash indicator, usually where the EV mode lights up. By the way, I have seen videos on YT about how in order to hypermile you need to stay clear of any arrows in the screen, well let me tell you it is impossible to do it on this car unless I do not know how. And yes, this is my first prius so for other previous owners with more experience it might be easier to achieve such results.

Here is a picture of a trip I did recently:

I replaced my tires 1,200 miles ago and my mileage on my C went from the 50.3 mpg you see in the photo down to 37 mpg. I'm puzzled and frustrated all in one.

I drive 85 miles to NYC from PA and 85 miles back to PA from NYC 5 days a week. The highway for stretches of 1 to sometimes 4 miles could be a pretty decent incline or decline both ways at times. With that said, the mpg depends on the speed you are driving. At 55 you will get the 50mpg plus, at 65 you are getting in the 45mpg range. At 75 you are getting 38-42 mpg. You can also get close to the 38mpg range at 85. As long as you aren't racing the car, you still do pretty decent. I haven't really noticed much of a difference between eco mode or no eco mode to be honest.

Muti-day road trip from New Jersey to the Finger Lakes region in New York and back, going through some mountainous areas and driving around town as well.

- 530 miles total
- 10.3 gallons of gas ($22; filled up before heading back and topped off when we got back)
- average mpg 51.5 for the whole trip, with best and worst during certain trip segments being 60mpg and 48mpg
