I agree McRose, a lot of people will still have wisecrack remarks about Prius and Prius drivers so you have to be able to make fun of yourself a little. Then again, the thread is asking if people liked the commercial and it's clear most don't haha! The car will sell well regardless I think.

I am all about making fun of the prius stereotype but the game of Life and cheesy actors are horrible. I guess I can dig Bill Nye if those ever make it TV.

Hopefully the car will be successful enough to come up with another ad campaign.
This car is worthy of something more along the lines of dancing hamsters.

Don't really pay much attention to the Prius C commercial, but the Fiat Abarth commercial with Charlie Sheen under house arrest really gets my attention. Now that's a commercial! Maybe Toyota thinks it is going after different demographics.

Me personally I didn't care to much for the TV spot. I fell that the message would be perceived better if they showed $4.00/gal pump prices and the car passing by all of them. lol I do feel that the commercials would be better if they were actually funny similar to the Fiat abrath commercials

Yep, I would say that's a bit better than the USA one.

Everyone's got better commercials then we do.
But our cars kick nice person in every way.

Did you guys miss the stupidest one of all? The 2012 Yaris one: "It's a Car". How humiliating for the folks who took the time to redesign the car and spark it up a little.

Too bad the decision makers for the commercials are not as dashing and courageous as those who created the few commecials that stand out in my mind: Fiat guy with Italian woman in street. Fiat with Charlie Sheen. The rapping hamsters with KIA. Those are a few that come to mind. I barely remember the cars themselves but I do recall the commercial.

Maybe Toyota thinks we will remember the CAR vs just the theme for it. We used to have very good TV spots. Maybe those were the Saatchi days, eh?

OK, the new one kind of cracks me up. It's definitely appealing to my demographic. I like it :)

Again, tongue in cheek, aimed at the young hipster crowd. I like it. I'll admit that I am getting sick of commercials that are blatantly aimed at hipsters (McDonalds and Chevy Sonic are two that come to mind), but this one is deliberately poking fun at the concept, and I think they do it well enough.

ETA: Also, I don't like the Fiat Abarth commerical that everyone here seems to like so much. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

In other threads I have severely trashed the latest commercial foray by Toyota.

And...I think they are really, really bad.

But the good news? Toyota builds products that overcome their recent horrible advertising.

I can see a lot of people watching these commercials and going "God I hate those commercials....but the car sounds interesting."....

I suppose you could twist that into being an "odd" type of success.

I saw the commercial last night and was thoroughly embarrassed by it.

I do not know what they were thinking when they made the commercial and who it was meant to appeal to.

If they thought it would appeal to the younger demographic, they are sorely mistaken.

Hi I'm new here , this is my first post and I want to say something about the background of this commercial.

First off, I'm 19 and I grew up playing the computerized version of the game. The reason I didn't see how the commercial could be offending or downgrading is because the discourse/jargon they used in the commercial is very similar to the discourse in the game.

Question, who has actually played the Hasbro Game of Life, and gets the objective of the game? And if you have played it, can you see how it relates to the message of the commercial? It's hard to explain, but the turns in the game of life represent the little and big ups and downs of life events in general.

That said, the appeal of the ad is basically saying that while bad dilemmas occur in Life on a daily basis, owning a Prius C compensates for those events for being affordable and having good fuel economy.

The commercial itself makes a lot of sense, but only if you actually have a pretty good understanding of the board game. It looks like the advertising group here made a mistake with the target group, assuming that a majority of their target has played and understands this game.

But after watching it, to me, the appeal is a success.

I'm guessing most people here understand the concept of the commercial, and know about the game of Life. They just don't like the jokes they use/how they portray Prius owners. I like it, though.

It's been a number of years since I've played Life. Doesn't it have silly stuff in it too? Similar to the objectives they have in the commercial?

The Prius c will sell because it is a good car, but this commercial does nothing for it in my opinion. The Fiat Abarth commercials are great because they actually arouse interest in a product that I would normally have no interest in. I believe that the commercials will actually lead to increased Fiat sales.

Yes it does, which is why I don't see the relevance of the characters in the commercial to Prius owners. Imagine if the commercial was for another car, a non-Prius perhaps.

The dolphin tattoo variation is a bit better at portraying this as well.

It's probably a better commercial for the Board Game "LIFE" than it is a commercial for Prius. And that's part of the problem. I don't think Toyota should be paying for that spot, Hasbro should. Even then? Hasbro should be worried.

I guess Life works better than Battleship. "I sunk your Prius!".

I don't really feel strongly about it one way or the other, but my wife absolutely loves the commercial. She yells every time it comes on. I told her she may be the only person in the Internet universe that actually likes it. :)

The Fiat commercials are sooo much better, but Toyota has always gone for the weird when advertising the Prius! While the Prius sells well in spite of the marketing, I really beleive a good advertising campaign could do wonders in turning around the unfair image of the car as something odd!
