If the instructions this time are the same as before, you need to apply them to the paint or bumper. The stickers purposely disintegrate if you try to remove them. This is to deter theft and to prevent someone from just moving them from one car to another (non-qualifying one).

So I think you would be taking a chance putting them on the windows. Anyone post the instructions that come with the stickers this go-around?

I'm thinking about taking a chance for the next couple days. Rogerv placed one of his stickers on a magnetic backing and affixed it to the side of the fender if I remember correctly.

Now that might work. Just make sure it can't catch wind and rip off. And be sure to remove at your destination to prevent theft. CHP would likely not be the wiser to this move...

Received mine today, number 12. Then went to the Auto Club to switch to the handicapped plate, and the DMV computer system was down, so no transactions could be done. Bummer! But glad to have the sticker anyway!

I also ordered my plates ahead of time online - PIP NO 1- and I think they should be ready right around the time the car arrives, so I'm not certain if I get the car and then go to DMV for the plates or vice versa, but I'm sure it'll work out. I haven't received any sort of rejection and they have my money.

UGH, that may suck for me. My application was mailed on Wed, so they should be getting it today. If yesterday was the processing day, I may be on the two-week wait cycle. Sob.... well fingers crossed.

Having just gone through this, here's what you can/can't do... you can order personalized plates without having a car to put them on. You can also take plates off a car and hold onto them (which is what I did before I traded in my '06 Prius). Once you get the generic plates for your new car, you can turn them back in and register your personalized plates onto the car.

What you can't do is use the personalized plate on your HOV sticker application before it's registered to your car (and you won't want to wait for that!). And you can't register the personalized plates to your car until the initial registration has been processed by the DMV from the dealer (at which point the generic plates are assigned).

So pretty much your best practice here is to get your plates ordered (or held from you previous car). Then, when you get the generic plates from the DMV, you take them back to the DMV (or AAA DMV office) and get your personalized plates registered.

And I'm thinking of waiting until I get my HOV stickers to swap in my personalized plates. Don't want anything to potentially mess up that process.

Got sticker number 37 in the mail yesterday! Flew down the 405 South this morning and blew through the Huntington Beach area with no issues..... Went to AAA later and swapped my plates out for my old personalized plates (HURRRY). Honk if you see me on the road!!!!!

Thanks to Dianne and Nathan for a great experience!

Have faith calbear! Just as soon as I post my comment what comes in the mail today? My lovely green stickers.

What makes this even more crazy is that they are number 15! I'm blaming it on the US postal service:)

Now on to my rebate check!

I can hear it now. Certainly newsworthy. FLASH: PiP continues to add to HOV gridlock - news at 11.

I received my stickers three days ago and have enjoyed the liberating feeling of the 22 freeway's carpool lane. Was checked out by a Highway Patrol car this evening on my way homeb(no issues). Special Thanks to Dianne and Nathan at Carson Toyota!!

Average 69 mpg on 1st tank of gas.
