    * sorry, may have posted this in wrong forum * :(

Unfortunately, there are many 'hate Prius' sites out there, especially on facebook of course. However, one can find some common ground with a few car nuts even in places like that. Sure, there's the ones that just say stupid one liners, but I don't get offended by that. But, others will speak their opinions of Prius and it's an arena to go head to head with them. Love it or hate it, some can hardly deny or avoid Prius these days.

I'm not encouraging all to go to sites like that, but it can help to communicate with those who are confused about Prius or hybrids in general.

    What do you think?

I went to the Powerstroke diesel site when they were being idiots here, they were VERY much more reluctant to be idiots on their home turf.

I favor the ability to be anonymous on the internet, but it also allows idiots to troll others. Don't be that guy, come with facts and logic, and a huge helping of humility.

Sure I could be more humble. I've posted the best links and data I know of.

    What do I think?

Do it if it's a Windmill inwich you enjoy attacking.

But I have a lot of Anti-Hybrid friends and IMO the level of dellusion and misinformation and just genetic, " I don't care what the "facts" are....I Likes my Gas Guzzler"...is pretty insurmountable.

I've spent minutes, hours, and possibly days illuminating just about every misnomer or fallacy about Hybrids and Prius, and even when TOTALLY cornered....it doesn't change the hard core idiots mind.

I remember spending a good 1/2 hour shooting down a friends supposed "facts" about why I shouldn't buy a Prius. When I had dispatched every mistaken "fact" he thought he knew about Prius? His final response was "Well maybe Hybrids would be good someday, but they just weren't ready "yet"."...

If you find entertainment in the debate? And I legitimately think that is valid, then debate away.....

I suspect converts will be "rare". I don't think there is anything I can say, that will trump gas at $4.50-$5.00 a gallon.

We reach those stages...and even my most stubborn friends start to realize that "Maybe" Hybrids are "Ready".

Does it really matter what anonymous posters write on the internet?

I've only had my Prius a short time- but the interactions I've had with real flesh and blood humans involving the Prius have been positive so far. If nothing else they seem to border on Prius envy, not hatred.

Nice thing about the internet is- you can turn it off! It would be a different matter if you got hate from real folks at gas stations, supermarkets, 7-11's, etc, but I've only seen the opposite so far (PS- not counting the road worrier/tailgater types who seem to hate everyone who's on "their" road).

I loved loved loved my Duramax diesel truck! It's truly a great machine, and the diesel is SO much better than the standard gas Silverado. Powerstrokes are.. well, they're ok too. ;)

What changed my mind was that my own driving habits changed. I went from 8,000 miles a year to 15-18,000. At the same time, fuel prices increased, and we all know they're going higher. Plus, my fiance is a new, inexperienced driver and we're now going into the city and all the smaller, tight parking spots.
All of this, coupled with the fact that the diesels are EXTEREMELY expensive to work on if something happens (but they're pretty reliable), made my decision relatively easy.

But hate? I just don't get it. I guess some truck guys see their vehicles not as tools, but as extensions.

What will change their minds? When too many $100 bills start flying out of their wallets, they might come around a little.

I dont profess to know everything about the vehicle I drive, but I do like to keep myself informed and educate myself. While I will never make an attempt to drive someone to see things my way about my vehicle/personal electronics preference/favorite authors/political affiliation/chewing gum flavor, I will absolutely steer completely clear from a conversation, monologue or soliloquy by someone trying to convert my way of thought/beliefs/choice to a way of thought/belief/choice of their own.

Dont try to sell me on what you believe in, and I wont do the same to you.

After we got bombarded by a group of members from a hot rod forum, I reached out to one of their Mods. He reacted with the same anger I would have shown knowing that members were messing with other forums. We hit it off and I joined the forum. Only he knew I was a Moderator here.

Questions came up from time to time about hybrids and alt-fuel vehicles. I answered them as best I could and ignored the mindless clods. Then I grew tired of monitoring multiple forums and just stopped going there.

So yes, there is common ground and curiosity.

I work with a hater. He always brings Prius-gay jokes, talks non-american cars, how he would never spend money on non-american product, etc, etc.

Talking about how many non-american cars made in US and how Dodge and GM make cars out of the country (Canada, Mexico, etc) had no effect. One day after getting tired from "I'd never send my paycheck money out of country" we had a following conversation:

me: "well with gas prices you spend more money on gas then on car purchase.. and every time you buy gas you're sending your paycheck to terrorists".

He: "you also need gas so you also support terrorists"

me: "I might support a terrorist but with 58MPG I spend less then 160$/mo. It may keep one terrorist from dying. You on other hand driving your 14MPG truck 90mi a day and support him, his camel and 72 virgins they get when they blow you up."

He's been quiet for a few weeks now.

Do nothing. I offer my opinion on this car to those willing to listen. I was partially responsible for a co-worker getting one and have convinced another friend about its merits such that he really wants a Prius on his next car. But, I roll with the gay jokes and all that; they don't bother me at all.

If it's on their home turf, let them have their fun. Doesn't affect me one way or another. If they come here, I make fun of them, then I ignore them until they get banned or get bored and leave, whichever comes first.

If any diesel owner has sincere hybrid questions they will seek out a forum like this one to ask them.

If you dig it, do it! I'm not going to, because I already spend too much time here. :)

I keep hearing about Prius haters. I've never encountered one. In the early days I got a lot of legitimate questions about the car, usually followed by, "Wow, that's pretty cool." That was back when "Do you have to plug it in?" was a legitimate question because people really didn't know. Lots of "How do you like it?"

Now the car is so mainstream that they're all over the place, and to the public it's just a car that burns less gas.
