sound proofing / undercoating wheel base

    I noticed when driving on a rough surface/road (gravel, snowy road with sand) the there is a considerable amount of noise coming inside the cabin on the rear end especially.

    When I was doing a quick wash today I just realized the sound is coming from the wheel base. On the rear and front end there is a plastic covering the wheel base.

    These plastic covering on the wheel base generate "echo" like effect. So I was thinking removing these covering in the summer and spraying them with some kind of "tar coating" on both sides. When I'm at it I might as well spray the rear end underneath (spare tire wheel compartment etc.).

    What would be best solution to spray those wheel base plastic with? Is "tar" like paint suitable for it?
    Tar might be OK for underneath metal parts but I'm not sure if it is OK as sound proofing.

    Thanks for the link.
    I was scanning forums for 3M - rubberize undercoating and according to this opinion it might not be as effective as sound proofing as it is not thick enough (make sense):

    He suggested the McMaster product, it might be suitable if applied by brash on a plastic covers inside wheel fenders.

    On my former RAV4, I tried the spray-on rubberized stuff that I bought at an auto parts store. 2 cans for 4 wheel wells. It didn't do much for the tin can echo effect that vehicle had. It did last for several years and numerous high pressure car washes.

    I think it needs to be something thicker. That rubberized stuff might be good for bare metal but not as sound isolation.

    In a front fender the cover is plastic in the back it is some kind of fabric.

    Question.
    Those plastic on the inside fenders have some find of fasteners, here is a picture. Anybody knows how to remove them?

    For over 40 years, I have rustproof every car that I have purchased. And, for 40 years, even in the harshest environments, such as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I have had no body panel penetrations.

    Good rustproofing takes a lot of time and care to apply. For my new Prius "v," it took 3-4 weeks to get it all right.

    The best rust proofing has to be the clear "Rusfre" brand. It is very very hard to clean off, even with mineral spirits. This "stickiness" means that it will really stay in place. I have it in my 1998 Mazda MPV, into which, I injected all the body cavities, the underside and box beams 14 years, ago. There is still absolutely no evidence of rust anywhere. Undercoating was applied to the under members a week after.

    I intend to keep my Prius "v" into 2025 and beyond.

    Unfortunately, unless you've had years of experience with automobile construction and wish to do the job, yourself, you cannot get the same attention to detail in 2-3 hours from a commercial rustproofing contractor.

    Undercoating is not rust proofing. I applied the clear "Rusfre" to the fasteners you indicate, waied a week for the "Rustfre" to dry tacky, and then applied spray undercoating.

    Just applying undercoating will trap moisture and may cause the metal to rust even faster.

    you need to put sound deadening on the inside of the wheel house under the carpet go to raamaudio.com he has all the stuff and instructions on how to do it. the spray will only help a very little the inside will help a lot.I did it the way raamaudio said to do and my prius is lexus quite.

    For soundproofing, I would consider Noxudol,although I have not used it, myself.
