A guy cut me off today and I honked the horn at him; man that horn sucks! Dude shot me a bird and I felt like I deserved it because the horn sounds like the C taking a carfart. Any advice or experience to share in changing out the horn would be great. I assume a horn can be purchased online and just swapped out but I'd hate to fry something if the power draw is different. Thanks in advance if anyone has some info.

Had a similar experience so I ordered a pair of PIAA HO-12 compact twin horns kit. It just arrived in the mail but I have not had time for installation yet..

The original horn in my prius c is a single horn from Denso and it is connected with a single wire... So I probably need to make a Y connectors to connect both the horns that comes in the kit.. And most after market horn require ground connection too...

I also take a look in the fuse box under the hood, the horn is running on a 10A so as long as what you connected does not go beyond that I guess it's ok...

any horn period requires a ground connection.. that's how anything electrical works.. the stock horn just uses it's own mount as the ground. any aftermarket horn should be able to be installed easily.. don't worry about power draw, as no aftermarket company would make something that would overwhelm the stock wiring.. and if so, then they would provide a relay harness that would tap power from the battery.

and for the record, when i first read the title of this thread... i thought you were actually looking for a horn that sounded like a fart to be used in a vehicle.. instead of describing the oem horn..

which btw, i've had to use quite often since i've owned this vehicle... odd.. i never really had to use the horn that much when i was driving other cars... but as you're learning to drive economically and really.. REALLY paying attention to your surroundings.. you'll find more and more stupid drivers on the road..

There's a great DIY horn upgrade already on PriusChat. Take a look at the photos and see if it looks similar to your Prius C.

I vote GP-5 Diesel Horn, you can hear it 5 miles away, imagine how it sounds 5 feet away. Any bird you honk at will loose that hand when the monstrous sound wave rips it off!

Second choice is the above mentioned PIAA HO-12 Air Horn.
Loud enough to make your point!

Yeah, my old Echo had a real wussy horn as well. Apparently in Japan, horns are used as a friendly thing, where here in the U.S. horns are used as an angry F-you sorta thing lol!! My first Fit I think was that way to.

Hook up a big tweet or megaphone behind the grill, run to a small amp and input from a pad/phone with the fart soundboard app. Play while driving through walmart pakring lot sunday after church and the youtube would go viral.

In all seriousness thanks for the recommendations. Wife says the OEM horn has to go and actually something along the lines of dustoff's links are what I was looking for but didn't know they were so pricey! I could get her a megaphone & small amp for that much ;)

Had to use my horn today as I was driving in a parking lot. People don't look all the time they listen and since in ev mode the prius is almost stealth this lady almost pulled out from an unloading zone into my c.

If you want to connect both the high and low frequency horns to the single mount of the Prius C, you can get the idea from this discussion:
Fiamm Highway Blaster Horn Install - Hyundai Forums : Hyundai Forum
There are some clear pictures that show connections that are similar to our cars.
Here is a Prius example. I like the simplicity of adding, rather than replacing the horn:

The only problem between a Prius and a Prius C, it seems, is that you can access the horn on a Prius by just removing the top fascia and emblem. Squall seems to think you have to remove the whole bumper cover on a "C". Has anyone removed the top fascia on a "C" without removing the bumper cover?? It looks like you could flex it a little and it would come out!

Done the horns upgrade a few weeks ago.. I was also looking for ways to get to the horns without removing the front bumper.. But unfortunately due to the way the top fascia was mounted, it's not possible to be removed without taking out the front bumper...

    not think.

    know.

there's less effort removing the front bumper in the first place... than try to avoid doing so.

i suppose you can partially remove the front bumper, but eh.. still more effort trying to wiggle in there to access the horn than just taking the bumper off completely.

if you need actual photos, or anything else.. (i.e. tools required, bigger pictures, etc..) just let me know.

i've been taking apart cars for years.. :D

Toyota and Scions so far have been the easiest. most times, you can yank away at panels and figure out how something comes apart.. find a nut, screw, bolt, clip, or another panel that's in the way? well, do what you have to, and continue yanking.. lol :p
