Probably too early to ask but it seems the funding is evaporating quickly. I sent in an "application" via their website in which I received an auto response "If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with additional instructions on how to complete the application process"?

isn't there still like 6 million dollars there?

edit: also i don't think they work over the weekend and there were quite a few PIPs moved over the weekend, so maybe we'll hear back from them early next week.

True. I guess the $6M is enough to cover 4000 units at $1500 a pop and the relatively few buyers of leaf/volt here in CA. Was just curious if anyone actually got paid yet......

My "approval" e-mail in response to sending the documentation is dated Tuesday, March 13, 2012, although I never got that message. I sent a follow-up message, and a copy of the approval message was sent to me. But still no check. The "official" word is that it takes up to six weeks after the approval.

I found the application process to be very easy and effecient. I prepared the application on line on Monday, March 19, mailed the documents that evening, and received an approval email on Wednesday, March 21. I emailed a question on Monday and received an email response immediately. I understand that after the application is approved it goes to the state for payment. I suspect that is where the bottleneck exists.

So you received the email with additional instructions to submit the completed, signed application with documentation the same day you submitted the application online?

I got mine the next day. Remember, we are talking about a private non-profit that handles the applications, not a government agency. Actually getting the check once the application has been approved: that is another matter.

I have the same timeline as yours. I submitted my signed application and supporting documentation (03/27) after receiving the email instructions.

I just received an email today (03/28) that my rebate was approved. Mail from Huntington Beach takes only a day, sometimes same day to San Diego!:D

I've ordered the Plug-in but it's not set to arrive till April. Can I send in the CA rebate application ahead of time, or do I need a VIN number, etc.? Thanks.

No. You need a copy of the sales contract and (temporary) registration.

You need to have a sales contract plus the temporary or permanent registration for the car to start with. There's some other stuff required as well. So, in other words, no, you can't send in the application early.

I sent in the application on 3/15 and no check yet.

Anyone know how to report this money on tax returns next year? Is it considered income?

I suspect that you will receive a 1099-MISC to report it as misc income on your 2012 return.

But it's not the state actually issuing the checks, is it? I thought it was the outfit in San Diego doing it.

The California Center for Sustainable Energy is handling the applications, but from what I hear, they forward the approved applications to the state for cutting the actual check. And that is what takes the time.

On another thread, which I can't find right now, someone posted that he had met the guy from CCSE who actually writes the checks. That's what I was going by.
