To say that I'm underwhelmed with Entune so far is a bit of an understatement! I thought the navigation system on the Prius Gen III was bad, but man this really takes the cake - it's truly horrible.

    Want some details?

    1. Don't have a manual available in any electronic format - PDF or otherwise. Really? Why do so many companies do this?
    2. Entune can't establish a Bluetooth Internet connection with the latest iPhone (iPhone 4S) running the latest iOS (5.1). Shouldn't this be the most important combination to support? This means that I must use the cable. Yeah I know this is no big deal, but it dramatically increases the likelihood that I'll leave the phone in my car and have it stolen, and that I'll drop it while getting in and out of the car. That's four extra pocket moves > 3 ft. over concrete every day. Is it Apple's fault? I don't care - it doesn't work for me.
    3. The Entune application must be running on my iPhone - really?
    4. The maps program is horrendous:
      • Contrast is so bad that I can't read the street names.
      • Address input is horribly slow.
      • In spite of the fact that I have synchronized my phone's address book (three times) I cannot navigate to any of my contact addresses, nor can I see them displayed.
    5. It can't display my text messages or email.
    6. The Entune apps (like Bing) can't be interacted with using voice - only the virtual keyboard. Must stop vehicle to navigate to a destination.
    7. I don't see what the traffic application is good for. How can I make use of it?
    8. Just tons of odd user interface idioms. It's hard to tell what is a button to be pressed, what is a label. Where to touch to do something, etc.

Really, the team or company that implemented this thing really needs to be fired and replaced. I haven't owned one, but I bet SYNC is much better. If I were a teacher I'd give Entune a "D" and make it stay after school.

I've only lived with it for 12 hours, and may be overlooking things - so please educate me if I'm wrong here...

We didn't get nav/Entune on our Prius C, but I could make many of the same disparaging remarks about the nav unit in our LEAF. With the amount of processing power they're putting into smartphones these days, you'd think they'd be able to put at least some small equivalent into a nav unit, but then again, I could imagine it now: some major manufacturer will come out with a car equipped with an Apple-branded nav unit and the price of the car will increase by $2K overnight..

    you are just getting started...

the iPhone 4s via bluetooth connect about 2 out of 5 times. it also takes a LONG time for bluetooth connection to happen.

Entune can not handle abbreviation for states in your address book so it looks for my address in Montana instead of Missouri. had go thru and spelled them all out.

I did change the maps to 2d from 3d, the 3D maps are a mess to follow.

I agree that the traffic does not make sense.

Even when you use the cable, (note the apple version of the cable work better than aftermarket's one) the audio does not always transfer to the the car, (trick I use to force the transfer, when it fails, is to press the phone make a call button on the steering wheel controls.)

I have reported these to my dealer, and they contacted Toyota, they (Toyota) are aware of them but no eta on fixes. i got an open ticket with these issues, suggest that you get one open too maybe it will help.

I think you are being kind with a D.....

I wish for air play option....

or better yet a built in iPad dock :->

Some of these like #2 and #5 might be iOS limitations. Some stuff simply may not be exposed to 3rd party apps or over the dock connector or BT.

It would be nice if an iOS developer and a Bluetooth protocol expert could chime in. For example, there was discussion of http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-v-audio-electronics/104720-bluetooth-map-phones.html.

http://developer.apple.com/library/...de/FileSystemOverview/FileSystemOverview.html discusses the iOS file system and sandboxing. I'm sure an adept iOS programmer could chime in and answer my above question.
I suggest people w/complaints contact either their dealer and insist that a ticket is logged or call Toyota customer care (I believe the # at Toyota Help) and get your complaints logged.

Enough complaints might force some action and at least gives Toyota data points as to what the top complaints are, so that they hopefully can prioritize addressing top issues.

Bluetooth for the phone seems to be pretty reliable. Bluetooth music streaming is less reliable. There have been times when it can't connect for music and I'll try the phone, which works, and the music just starts playing.

For me, if the phone works via Bluetooth that's probably good enough as I rarely listen to the radio unless I'm on a long trip. But I would agree that Entunes is borderline worthless.

Entune's a little underwhelming but it looks like they'll be coming out with an upgrade in the summer (to add a couple more apps) and maybe they'll work out some of the bugs along the way.

My biggest disappointment is Pandora's sound quality, which is like listening to AM radio, even in "high quality". On my iPhone streaming the sound to the car via Bluetooth sounds great even when I'm driving around.

BTW, the traffic app is useless, but if Entune's connected to your iPhone for Internet, the traffic info shows up in your navigation map.

I changed the setting on Entune (Pandora) to high quality and the sound got much better although not cd quality. It sounds similar to Bluetooth now or at least not as bad as the AM quality playback I was getting. I did not change the quality setting on Pandora on my phone.

I have a 2011 and 2012. I have to agree that entune is absolutely pathetic as I also have an iPhone, and have the same problems. The navigation system really sucks. Besides the poor contrast, and glare, the voice commands have taken a step backward from last years DVD based system. It is actually comical to try to enter a destination all at once. The different views you can have on the older system are just not present on the new system. They obviously changed navigation companies and it was a huge step backward. I sure hope they can fix some of these things. If I were Toyota I would quit bragging about this system until it works.

We had some discussion about nav unit manufacturers/suppliers and even Entune at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...cs/99908-what-brand-my-navigation-system.html. Tweddle Group Teams up with Market Leaders to Deliver Award Winning Toyota Entune came up in that thread.

I was originally disappointed that I couldn't get an entune equipped C but have since been overjoyed at the aftermarket plethora of awesome head units. Plus I'm not losing the head unit integration w car systems since the 2 doesn't have that so there's only gains. No losses!

Sounds like a navigation system designed by committee. That's never a good sign.

I'm not too happy with it either, mainly because I can't even use it! I signed up and everything and it refuses to connect to my Blackberry Bold. Each time I try, my phone gets emails that I've read sent back to the phone and then it says I have like 20 new emails!

Such a mess. I don't understand!!! Do I have to connect the phone using a cord? I thought it was all done wireless?

OK, I have a question about this Pandora thing...If you use the Pandora Service, which BTW, I love on the desktop, and it's connected to the Internet through your phone via Bluetooth to the HU and played out to the audio system, how much does all that data streaming out into your phone cost? How much data is actually pushed to your phone for say 2 hours of continuous music?

Do you get throttled back, sucks, have unlimited, cool, pay a data overage fee, really sucks, or am I missing something?

I had no trouble getting both of our iPhone 4s's connected to Bluetooth and Entune. But it is super annoying to have to run the Entune app on the phone. And the Entune apps are slow enough thru my phone to be fairly useless.

Another weird thing, even if my iPhone isn't playing any music at the time, when I connect it with either Bluetooth or Entune, it starts playing music from my phone. Maybe a setting or something I haven't found yet.

Yes, that was one I omitted from my list. I'm sure that we (the litigious public) are partly to blame for this. But it also takes a little courage on the part of companies to not just slap warning stickers *everywhere* in an effort to shield themselves from lawsuits. After the media fueled "runaway accelerator" fear pandemic of a few years back I'll concede this to Toyota that builds an amazing vehicle - just with a horrible electronics package.

It does seem like a really wasteful and expensive use of bandwidth.

I play music through my Spotify app via Bluetooth. I have made playlists "Available Offline" thus not using 3G/data - sort of like your iTunes music. Does this use data from your cell phone plan? I would think not, but just looking for confirmation.

    Thanks!
