Anyone else see the poor ratings on the Toyota Yaris on page 57 in the May 2012 Consumer Reports?

Since the Prius C is based on the Yaris chasis, I hope this doesn't transfer over to the "C."

The Yaris is not a bad car. We used to have a Toyota Echo and it was a phenomenal car. It looked good, rode well, and demanded very little. Kept it for 9 years.

Does any one know when Consumer Reports is releasing their article on the Prius C? In this years car issue they allude that a full review is in the works.

It this for the earlier Yaris?

the report said that the 2012 is a NEW design. They reported that the earlier model was better.

CR is right, for $17K, a Corolla is a much better buy.

They use pretty much the same powertrain. My point was that it wasn't a terrible car as they described since I've also driven one on a road trip. Sorry.

CR has never liked the Yaris before (ditto for the '12) and always said it scored too low to recommend, despite its reliability. IIRC, they never liked the Echo either and said the 1st gen Yaris was an improvement over the Echo.

yep.. also they found Yaris with 4AT more economical than Fiesta, Accent or Sonic... by 10%.

Actually, if memory serves me correctly, CR actually recommends the Echo, and is one of their top used car picks.

I stand corrected. I see at Fuel-efficient cars, Toyota Echo 12/00 (need a subscription to see it) that they did recommend it in 2000.

Car magazines I've seen diss the Yaris (even before '12) and most have stated it's an improvement over the unloved Echo.
