Hi guys! I thought I'd introduce myself and talk a little about my first hybrid and first toyota purchase I made 3/31/12. I'm an enthusiast and have had a 98 Audi A6, 2002 audi TT, and more recently I still have my 2006 BMW Z4 3.0SI. What really stood out for me on this car was #1 it was new. #2 it's 500lbs lighter than the current one, #3 gas mileage, and #4 using the 1st gen motor and using a smaller battery - appeals to me in a weird way.

    Good times at the dealership
So what I really wanted was a summer rain pkg 2. Unfortunately, my dealer in Walnut Creek CA told me they had none and that they did a search around the region and could find nothing. I told them I'd take a white or red in pkg 2 as well and still no luck anywhere. So the sales manager goes up to me and asks politely is there any way we can get you into our summer rain pk1. I told them I didn't like how it has no cruise control, but I was told I could have that installed by an aftermarket. I said I'd take the car on invoice...I previously requested 500 over invoice. The sales manager left for a couple of minutes came back and said he could do 100 over. Well, I agreed. Oh, but it wasn't over. I had to talk to the finance guy and he sold me on getting the extended toyota care for 2100 after I declined 5 times. He said it was $2400 and that he would extend the platinum 7yr/100,000mi warranty to 125,000mi. It sounded reasonable considering that was the same cost I got for my BMW Z4. So I signed the contract and got a due bill for a sagging weather strip, and left after 4hrs there! It was 8:30pm and I missed dinner with friends- I just wanted to leave at that point.

    Paperwork galore...
I came back with a due bill, the contract, receipt for my down payment, and warranty invoice. I looked over my contract and my extended warranty was listed at 2400 with only 100,000mi. I looked at my warranty paperwork, same thing. I did some further research on here and it turns out the extended warranty should only be around $1100!? So this finance guy is pocketing $1300! To say the least I'm upset. I mean this guy seemed really cool and I know he's a sales guy to, but c'mon I used to sell Audi's when I was 20 and ripping me off this much is just plain wrong. I don't mind if the guy makes money off of me, but the amount was not what we agreed to at all in the beginning. Honestly, I would have been happy to just pay 2100 but he purposely rewrote the contract with this incorrect info, and it makes me feel stupid to just sign 10 things and not even look at it! I'm going back there right now to get this fixed.

Don't mean to sound like a prick, but, read it then sign it.

Just cancel the extended warranty and buy it here. That is what I did after I found out what a rip off dealer was. If you financed it, the principal will get credited to you. The only downside is that your monthly payments will stay the same but at least you will be happier!

priusninja- I should have and I shouldn't have. It was a spoken agreement done right there. Funny thing is.. my payment was the only thing accurate we agreed on, which means he knew what he was doing, and planned to just sneak this pricing. Gets me so mad!

zebelkhan- I just got back from the dealership hoping to get the contract rewritten, but my finance guy is gone, and supposedly no one can help but him. Oh well, is the extended warranty on priuschat the same as toyota care? I did inquire about the pricing discrepancy I found here , and was told priuschat must be using a 3rd party extended warranty. Is it the same?

priuschat uses the same toyota warranty

if it were me and I could unwind the deal, I prob would - I want a long term good relationship with my dealer and not feel like they were ripping me off at every opportunity

Hey sorry it didn't go the way you want it, but when making the second largest purchase in your life other than a house you should always read the paperwork. Lesson learned, but that being said if you like the car I would keep it, and just cancel the warranty and buy it here. At this point the deal has probably been processed so if you financed the car the $2400 is going to come off the principle of your loan and not go in your pocket, but at least it will cut down on the amount of payments you have.
