    Hi all,
My sister just got a new job, which will involve a ton of travel on LA freeways. We did not pre-order a PIP, because she couldn't handle the payment with the old job. But, with the new job, it would greatly improve her quality of life. Does anyone still have a PIP pre-order, but decided not to get it? I am really looking for a basic, preferably grey, blue, or green. Can I step in your shoes?

    Thanks,

    Jackie

Start calling around..use fleet/internet contacts at dealers. That is what most of us did back in '04 when the 2nd generation was very very scarce....I was in line at 13 dealerships....

As per Erica all 2100 pre orders have now been produced and shipped. In that case PiPs should start ariving at dealerships for regular purchase some time in April (My Guess).
If my guess is correct you should be able to buy them in a month. Would not hurt to get your self added to Dianne's queue.

I would tend to agree with this... Toyota's quota to the "launch states" was about 15,000 cars, of which the preorders are a small part.

Spend the time looking for a dealer that will not markup the price of the car... Southern CA is loaded with them. Bought my PIP from Dianne as many here did - she is great!

I didn't know it would be so soon. I was under the impression that it would be August before the non pre-orders were available. Thanks for the info! My sis lives near Carson, so I'll send her in to see Diane after the pre-order craziness ends.

I know of one. Toyota of Hollywood had a cancellation on a Seaglass Green Advanced model, and it's now sitting out in front of their showroom. Problem is, dealer markup: they've added a $5,000 markup. So it can be yours... for a mere ~ $45,000.

Do yourself a favor, drop Dianne a email. You can do it through Prius Chat. Look up her profile, or find one of her posts. My wife and I ordered up a HyCam yesterday. What a super easy deal. The price was very right also. If you set it up right, when you start the job, your car could be waiting for you!

Regardless of who you go to, there's probably going to be a markup of at least a couple of thousand dollars on the orphaned vehicles. The question is whether the markup will still be there when the fresh inventory rolls in. I've placed myself on a number of different waiting lists so that I wouldn't have to pay above MSRP, but we'll see. Now that I think about it, if dealers can get away with charging $2-$5K above MSRP now, why not do the same for people on the waiting list? Seems like the demand still exceeds supply.

I have ordered (not preordered) from a dealer in MA. I'm very eager to get the car, and they know it. That said, if the price goes $1 above MSRP I'm out of there -- I won't do business with any such. And I think they know that too. :) )

That said, we've already agreed on the price; also, I've seen their quote on an orphan (white) PiP on the lot, and it's MSRP as well. No shenanigans.

I placed the order mid-March and I was told it should be at the dealership late this month or early May; today I got an email in which he says "I'm guessing next month." So total time around two months. Worth it to get the one I want. :)

You did not read my post, or you do not know who Dianne Whitmire is!

Like I said, do yourself a favor and give her a call. Listen to what others say out here. As far as I know there is only 1 Saleslady ever mentioned in numerous posts on this forum, and it's Dianne. You should really stop and wonder what and why that reason is! Every post is glowing, positive, and thankful!
Thats a nice record to have! :D
My wife is very happy she went to Dianne, so am I!;)

I can second this one, as I'm sure others will too. Price, great service, frequent timely updates, and the easiest transaction ever on pickup day. My wife and I are not just happy, but relieved that we went to Dianne. Just search "Garden Grove Toyota" and you'll see why.

I bought my car through Dianne. I live in Minnesota and sent her a Cashier's Check for $32K without ever seeing her (or my car for another week). That was not easy to do because it felt a little risky.

Now I have my wonderful car... Woo hoo!

    Trust me...she is good!

I don't want to give any specifics in case some people take this the wrong way, but I have made numerous calls to numerous dealers, and every indication is that (here, in Southern California) to get an orphaned PIP, you're going to have to pony up some extra dough. I'm not talking about pre-orders. I'm not talking about some other car. I'm strictly speaking about the PIP in Southern California. If there's anyone here in the Southern California market who never placed an online order yet was able to purchase an orphaned PIP at or below MSRP, please let me know.

It IS possible that they contacted Dianne but Carson Toyota might be like any other dealer and try to make some actual margin on a few of the new cars, just like any business should. They have garnered a large amount of goodwill already during the pre-orders, but at some point the market of supply and demand will likely have them charging a price above MSRP. I can't say for sure that this is the case, but don't go assuming that Dianne will never charge more than MSRP for non-pre orders.

That actually is a very good point! Currently PIPs are rare, as time goes on and more are produced, he will probably find exactly what he is looking for.
I do indeed wish him luck. Hopefully it will happen soon! :D

Wait until a few hit the lot... MSRP will be able to be had. Probably no discounts this year IMHO, however.
