Bridgestone Turanza or Goodyear Assurance?

    I noticed some Prius c's come with Bridgestone Turanza tires and some come with Goodyear Assurance. I was happy mine came with the Goodyears which have a much higher treadwear rating, I think mine's 540. I wonder why they put two different kinds on rather than stick with one?

    My wife's civic came with the Turanzas. They are a nice grippy tire. Soft and quiet ride too. Don't know what the tread wear on them is though.

    The Turanzas on the C were only 320 or 340 I think.

    The tires that come on any manufactures car is whatever supplier that was able to successfully bid the contract specifications and supply them tires at the time your car was being built.

    Either tire will suffice. My car came with Bridgestone Turanzas.

    it's not uncommon for Toyota to put different tires from the factory..

    I'm unsure of the reasons.. but I figured it's not only cost related.. but also what regions perhaps those cars are going to and if it warrants a different tire which might be safer or perform better... that's just my guess anyway.

    Yeah kkim, i just hate that alot of new cars come with such low treadwear ratings that you wind up replacing your tires after 25 or 30 thousand miles. The Goodyears at least had a fairly decent treadwear rating compared to many other new cars.

    Just remember that as the tread wear rating goes up, typically road holding ability goes down. While it may not be true of every tire, that is the general rule. Also, the way one manufacturer rates their tire does not equate to another. If one has a 600 TW rating and the other manufacturer has a 300 TW rating, this does not mean the first will get twice the life of the second. It might, but it's not necessarily true.

    I wouldn't pass on a car just because of the tires. If it meant that much to me, I'd just buy the tires I wanted after I bought the car and have the new set mounted.

    lol... I'm lucky to get 10K out of my tires. :D
