Hello all....We had a BMW 325i for over 6 years. I was planning to sell it since we need more cargo space and more room in the back seat. I have been researching for a new car with reliability, low maintenance and a decent milleage(with the sky rocketing gas prices). Initially was thinking about a SUV, but found Prius v which has a decent storage space and a very good mpg. Also was contemplating a Camry Hybrid, but finally decided to go with a Prius v due to the storage space. We have ordered a BP/Bisque - Five trim without ATP through costco Auto program with a very good OTD price of 32184.32 (including accessories -Applique, Mudguards, All Weather mats, Cargo net). Just recieved the call from the dealer this morning that it should be here anytime this week. We are very excited. Never owned a Hybrid before and I have been reading through very good information on these forums. I have some questions:

    1) What is the deault Warranty and Maintenance plan that comes by default? We are planning to keep this for atleast 8 years and so we wanted to get the extended maintenance and warranty plans that will cover for 8 years now and get it over with. Since the car was just released this year, does anyone know what might be the approx cost of maintenance/repairs per year would be. btw i am a very cautious driver and average about 12K - 15K miles per year.
The dealer quoted me the following with zero deductible

    6 year 75,000 miles $1200
    7 year 100,000 miles $1650
    8 year 125,000 miles $2225

I am thinking about getting the 8 years plan. Is it much costlier if i buy later?

    2) I was planning to get a Toyota remote start, but after seeing several posts about OEM remote starters like Viper, i am thinking about getting them. Does that void the warranty?

    3) Also with the speed navigation lock override, does that void the warranty?

    4) In my previous BMW car, i had a IPOD/Iphone adapter in the glove box and i used to have a 160 GB classic IPOD always plugged in since it has my entire collection. In BMW, there was a limit that it only allows to play the first 255 albums/artists/playlists and i had to make some playlists to play through the later Albums. Do you know if there is any such thing with this car?

    5) Also since i am planning to keep the 160 GB ipod always plugged in the car, i am worried that it will be visible all the time since the USB is the lower dashboard, Has anyone come up with a solution/tweak to hide the IPOD so it is not visible to outsiders.

    6) I am planning to get the Windows tinted and the dealer quoted me $199 with lifetime warranty. Does that sound reasonable?

Please suggest/advise if i am missing anything and thanks everyone for a lot of very useful information. I will post pictures as soon as i get the car.

    1) Toyota Prius Warranty and Coverage
Default Warranty - Basic 3 year, 36k miles, Power train 5 year, 60k mile, Rust - 5 year, Hybrid components 8 year, 100k mile.

Maintenance, 2-3 year complimentary, I believe.

    2) Remote starts should not void the warranty.
    3) Not sure.
    4) Don't believe so.
    5) Don't know.
    6) Sounds ok.

FWIW his quote to me for the 8/125K..zero ded. was $1630.00...my dealer respectfully declined to match that figure....

BTW we have the exact vehicle...BP/Bisq.5 no AT....got it on March 10th... good luck with yours...

    1) I definitely would go through Troy from PC for the insurance. There's a really long thread spanning 5 years or so for people who's gotten insurance through Troy. I paid way too much for mine and didn't do research and now have to cancel through dealer. Will be getting the extended warranty in a couple of years, which price will change. Based on Troy's price, the change was about $100 in 5 years for the 7 year/100K plan.

    6) I just booked an appointment to get my car tinted for $200 with the limited lifetime warranty - Llumar is the material. It was the best deal I could find around here at a very reputable place. If you're from a hot state like CA or FL, then tinting is 40% less. We're also getting the clear bra (3M) installed on the entire hood and front bumper at the same place ($500).

We just got ours 4 days ago and are already averaging 44.9 MPG at 170 miles. We're extremely happy with our prius, but my husband wished I had waited for the Five model, which would be another 2 months. I just couldn't wait and am happy with the Three.

A 3M bra for $500.00 is an incredible price, the best price I can find around Milwaukee is $800.00. If it works out well for you please let me know, it might be worth a road trip.

    Thanks...Dan.

Dan...If you're ever in the twin cities, here is the website which you can send an email for a quote on the 3M clear bra - type in "mnclearbra" dot com. I can't post url's yet.

These people really know what they're doing. I got a good deal because they're doing multiple things for me and i'm paying cash.

They are actually on the higher end when I called around here, but this place is really professional and they specialize in sporty cars. there was a beautiful Ferrari that they're working on for hood, fender and bumper for $2000+ but there's lots of coverage and detailing. We're bringing our car in this Thursday to get this done.

Have had the tint and clear bra for a week now. Love the tint. The bra is seamless. Can't even tell it's there unless I squat down and look at the front bumper.
