2010 - Help! Disabling Reverse Beep

This is from this post by ron57108. I've used this for the reverse beep but had left the seat belt as is.

Once your terminal is connected to the ELM327 device, enter the commands shown below:
AT H1 (Headers on)
AT L1 (Line feeds on)
AT SP 6 (Set protocol to CAN 11bit/500kbps)
AT DP (show you current protocol)
AT CAF1 (enable auto formatting)
AT SH 7C0 (this tells the ELM you are wanting to talk to ECU 7C0, which is the combination meter.)

*************Reverse Beep*****************************
Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 ac

Should return a response with "00" at the end if reverse beep is enabled or "40" if it is disabled.

To Change...
At > prompt type 3b ac 40 to set single beep.
Send the 21 ac query command above to see the new answerback.


*************Seatbelt Beep*****************************
Now, at the > prompt, type: 21 a7

Should return a response with "co" at the end if seatbelt beep is enabled or "00" if it is disabled.

To Change...
At > prompt type 3b a7 00 to disable beep.

 

Give the software that came with the ELM327 device a try to verify that your hardware is working correctly.

 

By "recognize the device" do you mean you get a response from it when using Putty (or Hyperterminal or whatever serial communications program you choose) or that the device is paired via Bluetooth?

Once I paired via Bluetooth and started the comm program, I got a response from the ELM 327 device showing the version number.

Does anyone know if you can use the ELM327 Bluetooth with your cell phone using software Torque App. to turn off the reverse beep? Amazon sent me this one instead the USB one that I ordered.

 

Jerry, I've got a 2012 and that doesn't seem to work for me. Any chance I could get the source code? It would be greatly appreciated.

If you just want to get er done quick-N-dirty use Putty. It seems to work in cases where Jerry's program doesn't work.

 

Thanks to those that posted info on the scangauge solution for the reverse beeping. The constant beep while in reverse was annoying. For me it was dangerous to have, I'd want to hurry up and finish the reversing just to turn off that thing. Now I can relax while backing up and not stress over it. Thanks again.

 

i went to the dealer today and it took 5 mins to disable. now it just beeps once. best thing ever!

 

Is this needed if you're using a Bluetooth ELM 327 adapter, and the Torque android app??

In this post Here, it just starts out at the AT SH 7c0 line.

I've never done this before so I want to make sure don't mess anything up!

 

I think it is needed only when you use a terminal program such as on a Putty,Zterm or HyperTerminal on laptop. The Torque app should be setting these settings as part of it's initial negotiation with the car. I've only tried the terminal method and I couldn't get it to work without those commands.

 

Gotcha, I'm going to use the ELM 327 Terminal from the android market, and was curious about the 'order of operations' since i'm a noob. Thanks for the info on the PC side of things

 

I tried that, and while I was able to connect to the car, I couldn't get the terminal commands successfully issued to the car via the bluetooth interface. It kept acting like it was timing out or something.

So I ended up ordering the USB version:

I used the included software on a Win7 laptop (there's a terminal mode buried in the Windows GUI interface), and successfully changed the backup and seatbelt beeps on both my 2012 and my parents' 2011 while visiting them over Easter weekend.

 

The dealership did mine two weeks ago, but they didn't know how– it took them awhile to figure it out. Now if only they could take off the seat belt beep!

 

So this tool/software will let me make all the common changes that normally only the dealership can do?

 

I can't say whether it will do *all* the common changes that a dealership can do.

The terminal mode in the free version of the included Windows software will let you disable the beeps (assuming you type in the proper commands found elsewhere in this thead). It also allows some basic graphical monitoring of the car's systems. You can upgrade to a more full-featured version of the software, but I don't know how comparable that would be to a dedicated ScanGuage device.

 

We have the Echomaster reverse sensors on my wife's Prius that beeps, and changes frequency of beeping as the car approaches objects. Needless to say, we don't need the constant beeping from the OEM equipment.

Going to ask the dealer about changing to the beep once setting. We'll see how that goes...

 

Thanks for the info., didn't read through the thread because it's too long. I will order the ELM5 scan tool and do it myself, rather than dealing with the stealership.

 

Ya, i don't care one bit about reading data, graphs, etc from the car.
All i want is the best tool (at the best price) to make customization changes, without having to pay the dealer.
