They should be able to check exactly what is inbound and be able to reserve the car you want if it's available. If they can't do that, try working with another dealer.

agreed, they should know exactly what's inbound. used to work for a car dealer and we always had a printout of what was due in and approximate dates. give them a call and ask to see the inbound list :)

Not gonna rock any boats just yet--it may be the inbound list they're getting next week--and they've offered me $2,000 MORE for my trade than any other dealer so far--that in mind--I can stand to wait awhile. It's not like I NEED it sooner! But, thx for the info!

Sometimes ya' just hafta trust the SYSTEM~they are aware of exactly what I want! Have exchanged many e-mails! :clap2:They continue to thank me for being flexible, i.e. a 4, a 3 or a 2. :tea:

Maybe what they meant but didn't want to specifically say was that they don't have that configuration coming into their stock, but will see what they can do about swapping with another dealer in the area, just to keep the OP from doing that himself and losing the sale?

Hmm, that is very strange then because they most definitely should know exactly what they have on their incoming inventory... Good luck!

Habanero is an amazing color and adds the most personality among all the Prius lines. If that's what you want, don't settle for any other colors!

Yes, I suspect the dealer does not want to nail down the deal due to high demand for c. If they wanted to, they could do all of the paperwork and lock him in at this time contingent on the car/configuration he wants. That they don't do that tells me they are left to be "flexible" as to what he will ultimately end up with and and what price? He may be getting a great deal on the trade in, but what's the total price of the car once they add on things he really doesn't want? Add the complexity of the trade and the deal can become quite expensive if he's not careful and keep the dealer "honest" by getting things in writing. That's been my experience, anyway.

I never trade in cars but sell them privately while keeping the deal simple at the new car dealer. Plus it gives you the flexibility of checking out other dealers in your area and working them one against the other for the best bottom line deal possible.

    Well, Kelly.....
due to "everyone else's" concerns here--I shot the dealer an inquiry pretty much asking everything all you guys mentioned--so we'll see how they answer these concerns, or whether they drop me like a hot brick!
I really wasn't too concerned BEFORE I began this thread. :rolleyes:Maybe I shouldda never started it, eh?

When I buy a car from a dealer, communication is key between my salesman and me. If I even suspect they are being less than forthright, I find another dealer or salesman... or go to the sales manager. You have every right to know what is going on if you are about to spend $20k. From my experience, if it isn't in writing, sleazy sales people have no qualms about flatly denying anything after the fact. I have no idea about the people you are dealing with, so I'm erring on the side of caution so you don't get caught by surprise when the deal is finalized.

If I were you, I'd be glad to be getting our feedback before something could potentially go wrong, not sorry. I hate buying new cars for this very reason... too many land mines before you take delivery. Many make it through w/o problems, but when something goes wrong, look out.

I pretty much agree~and will letcha know what happens re: the bombshell I dropped an hour ago. He's usually good about calling me but we shall see. I expect to hear back today--if not, that's a bad sign!
At any rate, thanks for tryin' to help & err on the side of caution, etc.
I do appreciate the comments and suggestions!:eek:hwell:
