I have been on this board doing research for about 3 months. I bought my Prius v Five 2 weeks ago and got it on Saturday. It took about 2 days for me to get used to driving the hybrid. I was already familiar with basic hyper-miling techniques (I used them to get over 20 mpg on my Blazer), but it was still a difficult transition. I was also a little bummed that it was only showing 19 mpg for the tank. But now, after 5 days of driving, I am used to how she drives, and it is showing 41 mpg and climbing! I am so stoked. I went out on the highway today and put it in PWR mode, and was pleasantly suprised with the amount of power. Also, everyone who has ridden it has said the same thing, "I need to get one of these!"

Needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled with the car.

I want to say thank you to all of the posters on here who helped me make a great decision!

    You guys rock!

I posted a picture of the car in the brutal Florida sun!

Congrats! You will do much better than 41. We have been getting about that at winter temps and winter gas. Is your v magnetic gray? It's hard to tell on the iPhone screen. If so that is one of my favorite colors. We bought a 3 in magnetic gray and 5 in blue ribbon. I wanted gray and the spouse blue but inventory changed that up for us. The blue has really grown on me but a bear to keep clean.

    Enjoy! W

How hard was it to get the factory-installed "Coexist" and "Hate is not a family value" stickers off??

Yeah, it's the Magnetic Gray with tinted windows. Blue Ribbon was my second choice (my wife's Camry is that color). The dealer kept trying to sell me a Blizzard Pearl, but I held out till they found a Gray one for me.

That was Prius stereotypical humor....we can laugh at ourselves, right?

Come to Chapel Hill, NC and try to find a Prius that doesn't have these stickers!

Ok now I understand. I don't think I've seen that up my way. We tend to see more political statements.

I'd love to come back to Chapel Hill. I was a tarheel fan before I could walk. I would probably get quite a chuckle Prius watching in your neck of the woods. I miss NC and will get back someday. I think I'm starting to understand your chosen name now.
    :)

PriusvGator - Welcome to the Prius v Hybrid Hive, Space Coast Synod, and to the Fight In The War On Petrol Terrori$m, One Gallon Of Gasoline Not Used At A Time.

The Melbourne-Brevard Area definitely has a growing number of new Vee Prii One (VP-1) “Gray Ghost†Squadron members. I live beachside in Indialantic, and am also piloting a Magnetic Gray Metallic w/ Misty Gray SofTex Seats & Coordinated Interior Color, Petrol Warfighter, which is the Signature “Stealth†Prius v (“veeâ€) color combo.

I am pleased to see another Stealth, Magnetic Gray Metallic Pv5 Petrol Warfighter taking to the roads of Brevard to glide by and show their “Six O’Clock†to gas station after gas station. Judging from your “stoked†level of enthusiasm with your new fuel-sipping ride, it sounds like you shall soon become quickly, fully assimilated into Prius v Cube-Collective as a new, Fuel Conserving Prius Borg.

Our current extra “Hybrid Friendly†Florida winter weather, which permits you to run comfortably sans HVAC air conditioner-heater, will give you a good opportunity to “Get Up On The Step†regarding learning how to drive the Prius v “Caddy In A Kimono†Hybrid $mart to achieve stellar MPG fuel economy numbers in the 50s MPG range.

I invite you to click on the link in my signature to my Ten Tips Guide To Prius Ultra High MPG. The tips there about pre-operative set-up and hybrid driving technique can help you continue to raise your current “41 mpg and climbing!†MPG-FE numbers up into the low-to-mid 50s MPG range, where I currently have my Stealth, Magnetic Gray Metallic Pv5 Petrol Warfighter running.

You may also want to check out the Prius v “Caddy In A Kimono†group at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/caddy_in-a_kimono/ I just reported there the MPG-FE performance I logged on a recent Over-The-Road, Interstate Highway driving 1,000-mile round trip I made, including some observations on what was a less than wonderful performance by the NAV Lady and the Entune Navigation System.

I am guessing that you purchased your new, 2012 Prius v from Toyota of Melbourne. If you did, you should be put on their invitation list to receive an invitation to the Customer Appreciation Dinner they periodically have for new Toyota owners. I think they may be having one in April. If they do, I plan to attend it. If you make the dinner, I will have a chance to meet and chitchat with you about things Prius v.

Catgic, that is so funny that you live in the Melbourne-area as well. I am in north Melbourne, just a short ride over the bridge from you. I still haven't seen any other v's driving around here, but the dealer can't keep them on the lot, so I am sure that I will soon.

I have read your web page, and it has a ton of great information. As I learn more about how the car drives, I keep going back to it. Hopefully, I reach 50 mpg as I become assimilated into the Prius v Cube-Collective.

I will keep my eyes open for the invite from Toyota of Melbourne.

I was able to negotiate about $1500 off of the price of the car. The v's are selling before they even reach the lot, so a lot of the dealers aren't discounting the price at all. Also, make sure you find a dealer that will drop the ToyoGuard. It is an 800-1000 dollar option, and it is worthless. If the car hasn't left the port yet, then they can usually remove that option.

Great looking v!!! What are the clear lights under the turn signals? Some sites I have looked at say they are fog lights, but I know that's wrong as the fog lights are the round lights in the lower grill.

The headlight assembly is lights and brights. The rectangular lights below them are turn signals, and round in te lower area are fogs.

Well, to be more exact, it is the Front View Turn signals. You will see on the side the side turn signals are there, but the position of them is obstructed by the lights, so people looking directly at the car will have a hard time seeing the turn signals.

So, you are saying there are side (amber?) turn signals by the headlights and two turn signals (amber and white) in the lower fascia?

    Yes. Example:

At time 0:13, you will see that in the 'front' aspect of the car, you can't see the turn indication on the 'side' of the headlights when facing directly at the car. While in that video, you don't see those 'flashing', the fact you can't even see the 'orange' unless you were off to the side, would make it difficult for people facing 'directly' at the car to see the intention is going 'left' or 'right' without those rectangular ones in the front.
