Took my 2005 Prius in for maintenance work and now they say there is a problem somewhere in my harness. Maybe some kind of short. My airbags are not going to deploy if I have an accident. They want to charge me $1995.00 to replace, with a discount. has anybody had this problem? Is is worth fixing for that much money? I hate the thought of a car payment. :(

Being told there is an air bag problem without the light for the air bag(s) showing on the dash seems odd to me. A bad spiral cable in the steering wheel is a problem for the air bags, I had to replace my spiral cable. The air bag light did show on the dash first, however.

problem somewhere in my harness. Maybe some kind of short. Please ask for more specifics. Were there any trouble codes generated?

Had this vehicle previously been in an accident?

Does the SRS warning light appear?

I suppose your decision about whether to repair depends upon whether you expect to have a front-end accident at some point during your ownership. If so, do you want the SRS system to moderate the impact of the accident for you; or do you believe that the seat belt will be sufficient.
