Our 2011 Prius lll is now 3 Mo. old with 4800 miles which is driven by my neat careful wife and is garaged. To the right of the Window monroney sticker is the Southeast Toyota Distributor sticker. Listed on that sticker are the Toyoguard 699.00 and Carpet Mats 299.00. There are 2 small front and 2 small rear. These mats are very thin and poorly constructed. The rubber backing has molded to the back small short tacks or cleates. They stick into the carpet and break off into the carpet and are very difficult to remove. My wife worked for 10 minutes with her vac and removed less than half of them on one mat. This also seems to be damaging the carpet. The dealer management, SE and Toyota won't listen that we as buyers do not want this junk at the grossly inflated preinstalled prices buyers are forced to accept in the SE US region. Now who is going to be the first to counter argue my point and who really are those that do this?

Remind me again who forced you to buy from a SE Toyota dealership ?

When I bought m "v," Southeast Toyota had added $898 worth of these "upgrades" including the window tinting.

I paid $460 under MSRP, before these high cost "upgrades." Basically, I paid nothing for them.

I got my "v" on Superbowl Sunday, when business was "very" slow.

So, I'm NOT complaining, since most buyers, here, state that they are paying MSRP, without any of my "FREE" upgrades.

GST installs all the same crap. Carpeted floor mats, carpeted cargo mat, rear rubber bumper protector, VIP security, and I think something else... can't remember. Then the dealers are forced to pass this on to their customers. I ended up buying from a different region (for other reasons) and the only thing added on was the mats.

Oh no .... here we go again .... another woe-is-me thread about something that once again .... is no big deal .... you are such a victim .... people just like to prey on you.

Why don't you do a little research next time BEFORE you buy ??? Or preferably buy another brand. Or whine somewhere else. We get it ... Toyota is HORRIBLE ... they should get rid of their criminal dealer network .... and they should stop taking advantage of poor ole subjective ... enough already.

Who forced you to buy this damn wretched Toyota anyway ???

I have (I think I still have them) a set of carpet mats that came with my 2010 Prius that I'll gladly sell you for $100 + shipping. IIRC, they've been in my garage for the past year, and before that they sat in the trunk because I had the all weather mats. Heck, I still even have the all weather ones I'm willing to part with.

Subjective, sorry to hear about your frustrations. I had the same thing - items that where not included in the factory sticker price or add ons by the dealer like mudguards, wheel locks, tint and etc that totalled close to $1K. But did not pay for it. The problem that I see here is your inexperience when it comes to buying cars from a dealership. In short, it's how you negotiate. It's knowing when to continue, when to stop, when to say no and when to say yes. When you say "forced to accept", did the dealer or sales manager put a gun in your head to sign the papers to buy a car from them or accept the add ons as part of the sale? Obviuosly, the answer is no. It's just mainly sales talk. No more and no less. You always have the option to walk away or look around for other dealers nearby or out of state. I would understand why others will not sympathize with you. I had the same experience in the past similar as yours and could not get rid of it quite easily but got over it and use it as my learning experience. I hope you have learned something positive from it and move on. Now that you have your prius, it should serve you well hopefully with proper care and regular maintenance.

Did your customer satisfaction survey reflect your dissatisfaction? Maybe someone will get the message after enough poor surveys. Maybe not.

Unless the states in the South East Region passed laws mandating in-state purchases customers are free to shop elsewhere. If you don't want the crap on the car then find a car that doesn't have the crap.

My 2010 came with some PIO that I didn't want & some that I could tolerate. It was a point in the negotiation process. My stuff was the relatively cheap crap & the market had started to soften so we both gave a bit.

I paid $1.5k below factory MSRP, and about $2.5k below dealer sticker price including mats. I bought on Pi day (3/14), which was about the peak of the gas inflation. It seems that many on this site ran away with great deals judging from all the "Did I do good?" or "Can you pat me on the head for getting a great deal?" threads.

Lets get something straight here. These mats of this poor quality would retail in an automotive supply store for a max of $39.95 but are priced on the SE Distributor sticker for $299. To quote a poster on another thread "anyone that is OK with with this must be one of them"!

i ordered mats with my new pip. they include the big one in the hatch area. the drivers mat now has turn locks, very nice. the quality seems fine. i have had great success with prius mat longevity, our 04 still look almost new after a shampoo. that said, i refuse to buy dealer add on's i don't want unless i cannot find a better deal.

Ya, WITH mats (the only add-on) I got welllll over $2k off Toyota's MSRP, and completely hassle free.
Shop around, even if that means looking outside your region.

And yet YOU paid $299 for them .... not a very smart shopper are you ?

Give it a break ... you have got to be the most naive, uninformed, and gullible consumer every to be sold a car. You have no one to blame but yourself ... get that through your head.

The more you comment, and whine and complain ... the worse you look ...

Why not take a deep breath .... settle down .... and join the forum for fun and learning .... rather than continuing on this tirade that nobody cares about.

I dearly wanted the 2010 Prius v when it was first announced - the new Gen 3. Scoured everything for research. The 2010s just came out Spring '09 and were being shipped - and I was ready to buy.
Went to my local Toyota Dealer (SET in FL), and I knew more about the car than the 2 sales reps, but no shock. We started to deal, and they insisted that SET bundles the floormats and toyoguard. Didn't say much until they got to the $500 "dealer fee". I tested that with them and one of the reps said it's mainly for prepping the car when it comes in. I prodded further - "like what?". He said well, we need to install the fuses and stuff. That was it - I would not purchase a car from my local dealer that treats customers as primates.
Went online and eventually found Earl Stewart Toyota in Palm Beach. Long story short, within 7 days they located my perfect match red/beige v w/o Nav - on the ship to be in Jacksonville port. They would be able to trade with another dealer as that car was not a customer-build.
NO forced options at all and NO dealer fee. They have been a Toyota dealer since the 1930s and pull weight in SET - and can break rules.
I bought nice rubber floor mats on Prius Shop and wax the car myself. And saved grief, regret, and not getting shafted with $1500.
Yes SET region stinks - but customers continue to buy (OP...) and if there's no pushback why should they change? Buyer beware and research before the plunge.

I do not disagree that the mats are cheap but heck I knew that when I first checked out the car. Too bad you did not as others have said. But hey the Prius logo has to be worth something right :)

I quickly wore a spot on the driver's mat since I keep my heel in one place and swivel between accelerator and brake pedas. Quickly puchased a set of Exact Mats to cover the original mats from the Prius Chat Shop and problem solved.

I can't complain. Like I said, I got the entire package for FREE. The window tint, the door and wheel well paint protectors and the clear top of rear bumper protector looks like they are well applied.

Anyway, who cares about floor mats. They get dirty and worn. Just replace them,
