Okay...I've searched the site for a couple hours now, and I cannot find directions for disabling the reverse beep on a Gen III 2012 Prius Three. Is my only option to have it reduced to one beep at the dealer? I've tried (so many times, we lost count) the directions for the Gen II and it simply doesn't work.

    I appreciate your help!!

    Thanks.

You can do it with scangauge if you have it. If not, then dealer is the only option.

Hey there - cproaudio is right. The only way you can do it is to go to the dealer and ask them nicely to do it for you. At first, my dealer told me that they couldn't disable the beep because t was a safety precaution. I was like alright, I'm not goin to argue with them. Instead, I came back a few months later and asked another service rep (mentioning that the beep is listed as a customizable feature of the car, and that others have had the beep disabled by their dealers) and he did it without any questions asked. It usually helps if you're getting some type of maintenance done, instead of going in there solely for the reverse beep change. Good luck!

You can have the dealer change it. If you look in the manual, there are several options that can be changed such as when the doors lock when you put the car in park or in gear. I just took mine to the dealer and gave them a list of what options I wanted to change. No problems.

2010 and later, you cannot disable it, but rather can change it to an intial beep only. But yes, scangauge or dealer.

You can do it with the Torque app also, both the seat belt and the reverse beep.

Perhaps these should shed some light:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...difications/90414-scan-gauge-ii-question.html
    http://priuschat.com/forums/obdii-android-app/98693-geniii-prius-custom-pids-torque-app.html

I believe http://torque-bhp.com/ is the right place. I don't know since I no longer have an Android phone. I have owned http://www.scangauge.com/products/scangaugeii/ for a few years though.

Or with one of the many, relatively cheap ($20) ODB-II connectors (USB or Bluetooth) and your laptop (PC or Mac) or Android phone. There are several posts on this site on how. You're not limited to just the ScanGauge or dealer. Though the ScanGauge would be kind of cool...

If you're ever in Orange County, let me know.. it only takes like a minute

Or do like RichardAK said.. if you have an Android phone.. if you dont have an Android phone, they shouldnt be hard to find used (even free from friends).. even the oldest Android phone (the G1) will work

Will your dealer do it for you?

Before I helped a friend get an '11 Prius, I'd read threads here about basically getting the salesman to have the customizations changed (e.g. reverse beep and others) as a condition of the sale. No changes? No sale.

On the '10 and '11 Priuses, many/most of the options that you can apparently now change via touchscreen on the '12s had to be changed via OBD2 (typical way is thru Techstream).

I didn't know if the reverse beep was one that still required Techstream (or something that sends the right messages).

When I showed the pages in the manual w/the customizations to the salesman (when my friend was buying) and asked about getting the reverse beep changed, funny enough, the salesman had no idea and never heard of it before. He walked us over to the service desk. The service writer said: we'll change these options for you one time for free, just bring it in and tell us want you want changed.

I did it this morning with a $9 Chinese OBDII Bluetooth adaptor, my Android phone and the free ELM 327 Terminal app, following the instructions found on this board. Worked like a charm. Actually, I didn't think I was doing it right, due to my friendly neighbor distracting me wanting to chat. But the next time I put the car into reverse, YEAH! ONE BEEP! Thanks guys!
