This is also know as dealer prep. I know that my dealer got it in on the 18th (not sure if day or night).

So they have to peel, wash, fill, etc. according to a checklist.

Should I start bugging my rep for not emailing me that it came in but that they were prepping it?

Mine came in on the truck in an evening, and was ready for me by late afternoon the next day. I understand that they expedited the process since there was a customer waiting, as opposed to a vehicle just going into their inventory.

I think mine arrived in the morning. I was there at about 12PM completing the purchase. By the time we were done, my car was ready and on its way to getting the leather installed.

So yes, if you are anxious to get your car, then I would call the dealer to at least let them know you're anxious and want a more definite time frame of when you can schedule a stop by the dealership.

If the dealer already has the car and actually got it on the 18th for sure I'd call for the heck and ask if they prep on the weekend. If not I'd ask why it has not been prepped already so I can have it by Friday night for the weekend. That's just me, it shouldn't take that long honestly.

Mine arrived at the dealer around noon on Tuesday and I picked it up at 6pm. They detailed it and filled the gas tank. They hadn't charged the battery, but that didn't particularly bug me; I just wanted to get it home.

it should take a tech about 1 hour to do a PDI on a Prius...
the fastest.. about maybe 40 minutes.

it does not take more than a day... the only reason would be if the service dept was busy with other cars.

not only do they have to peel off the protective white film.. they have to install some extra body panels, hubcaps, rubber plugs.. and the more time consuming process is doing a health check... which they hook up the Toyota Techstream and run some tests.

also.. i don't think it's part of the PIP PDI process... but they could charge your PIP up for you.. which would take a few additional hours..

    It's a few hours max.

Of course, that doesn't include the joy rides by all the sales reps wanting to check out the latest-and-greatest...

All kidding aside, since they've had it for 2 days (more than enough time to PDI) I'd stop by the dealer, ask when it's going to be ready--and while you're there, ask to have a peek at your car (so you can confirm it's there, and check the mileage), and emphasize you don't want anybody except the PDI tech driving it.

Also, the floor mats have to be installed. My dealer also charged the battery, which took a while since he was using a Level 1 (120v) charger. Normally they don't allow customers in the shop, but since my PiP was their first, they let me take a look while the prep was being done.

floor mats aren't really part of the PDI process..

but pre-delivery.. yes... it's during the process when they take off all the stickers, detail the car.. etc... is when they install the floormats.

They can joy ride in the Advanced model. Wife is worried they will be taking it out for test drives since it's listed on their web site as for sale with the VIN I have. It's slightly possible that from their perspective I may not pick the car up but since I left a deposit since Thanksgiving isn't it technically not for sale and misleading to the web shoppers?

I'd be on a phone to the General Sales Manager yesterday. The sales team may be "unaware" that your car is a pre-order. Or at least they can pretend they are. Then find out who pressed the 'OK' button on your original online deal, and read them the riot act.

Print out your pre-order and take it with you.

Most car manufacturers systems automatically show any car that is delivered to a dealer as available in their web system, giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt, since you haven't technically purchased the car yet, I'll assume that's why they haven't deleted it yet from their web inventory (or they just haven't gotten around to it).

Having said that, I'd still suggest following the advice in my previous post.

These cars have deposits on them and are special order cars.
The Dealers seem to be forgetting about this little fact, and act like they are just inventory. They should be on the phone when the car hits the ground asking if the buyer has any special requests, and doing nothing but delivery prep, and absolutely no driving.
I got more $ off the price (beyond the PC deal) because they mounted the front license plate bracket without asking! (making holes in the bumper)

OP needs to be on the phone getting the status of His Car.

I would give them benefit of the doubt since they are a very large and diverse dealership and it's probably some guy in the central office maintaining their web inventory for all their dealerships off of some report.

But just in case, I emailed my rep about the car being in on Wed and could I come in Sat morning.

So I did the title paperwork since it lists the mileage at transfer so they can't test drive it. Luckly when we went to test drive, it still had the 2 miles and we put another 3 on it.

So all is well until I get my financing check to them.
