The Prius V seems to be an in between vehicle, not a sedan and not an SUV (no all-wheel drive.) I am not sure how the law sees it anyway and I am considering tinting the rear passenger windows. The degree of tint allowed depends on how the vehicle is classified. Can anyone tell me what to expect for a ruling on that matter in Minnesota?
    Thank you.

It's a crossover, but I don't know if that is a legal classification.

In CA the classification of car doesn't matter. Here you can tint any window, any shade except the front side windows/windshield (No tint allowed). With that being said, I recently had both my 2012 Prius and my wife's V, tinted (including front side windows), as I have all my previous cars for years and I have never been pulled over. You just have to be sensible. I tinted my windows "medium" on everything but the front side windows, which I did "light". The cops just want to be able to see you and light tint allows
good coverage while still being able to keep yourself visible.

Here are a couple of pics of my cars:

BTW, my tint guy's name is Danny and he is in Huntington Beach, Ca. He's been doing my cars for years, great guy! Does an amazing job, for the best price in town. Here's his website: Auto Tint Specialist - Window Tint Huntington Beach He charged me $120 for the V and $130 for my Prius. (It's $10 dollars more on a regular Prius, for the strip of glass between the trunk and the spoiler). Anyway, the best thing about him is that he gives you a WRITTEN GAURANTEE ON BOTH LABOR AND MATERIALS!You basically can't go wrong. That's a special price he gives me, but he told me that anyone who I refer, gets the same price. Just make sure you tell him that TIM sent you. I hope this doesn't come off as an ad. I have no affiliation to this particular tint shop, or any other one for that matter. I just want to see my Prius bros and sisters get taken care of.

P.S. If anybody needs any additional info, feel free to PM me. ALso, if you want to use Danny's services, make sure you set an appointment, as you can imagine, at those prices, he is super busy.

    MN Window Tint Law Explained

here is the definition of Van "Subd. 40.Van.
"Van" means any vehicle of box-like design with no barrier or separation between the operator's area and the remainder of the cargo-carrying area, and with a manufacturer's nominal rated carrying capacity of three-fourths ton or less. If the manufacturer's nominal rated carrying capacity is not provided or not known, then the value specified by the manufacturer as the maximum gross weight or gross vehicle weight rating as indicated on the manufacturer's certification label must be less than 10,000 pounds." 168.002, 2012 Minnesota Statutes

Good luck convincing them the v is a box-like vehicle.
