Hey guys, do not want to thread jack here at all, I bought the Toyota Tacoma unit very similar to your G2 and because of you all, I have tweaked it, learned much about it, etc. I love it so far. The navi too me alone was worth its weight in gold. Thank you all.

I have one issue maybe you guys can help me with...I searched and could find nothing on this subject, so please let me know since I understand its not related to the original post, but i tried on the Tacoma sites, and not enough folks have this unit yet over there, you guys are the experts!

I used the 4GB card that came with just for the navi Op sys and setup a separate 4 GB thumb drive that i keep in the glove box with music on it. I go to Music, than I press the USB at the bottom, it automatically loads all music, I then open the menu to the left and select Random which works just fine for me.

The issue is, that if i leave the car for a bit and them come back, it will sometimes load itself and start playing and other times, I have to do it all over again from scratch, to make things worse, if and when it loads itself, it will start always playing the first track from the beginning, but an "Application Mgr has experienced and error and needs to close" box, music keeps playing but nothing else can be done until i turn the unit off and soft reset it again.

Daniel at Ottonavi told me it could be the USB drive, so I got a Micro SD card 16GB and copied the Navi stuff to it and also the music, nothing changed, I get the same error.....

I used the patch on this post to get into the Win CE stuff and played with the memory settings a bit, and got same thing.

Any advice, I love the Navi, and want the flexibility of music on a USB or SD thats about all I care about with this unit!

Hello Chat, welcome to this thread.
As for the USB drives, of course, they are not created equal...
Some of them are quite slow so that when you power on the unit they may not respond fast enough and they may need to be unplugged and plugged again.
That happened to me very often; now I stick with the DataTraveler ones which seems to be better.

I never experienced that problem with any of my SD cards though; and I tried many.

One thing to know about this unit, which happens to me all the time, is it seems to remember what you did the last time. For example, let's say you listen to the radio and use the GPS at the same time. If you power off the car (not the unit) then when you restart the car, it will start the unit automatically and then the radio and the GPS too. This will not happen obviously if you power off the unit before powering off the car.

About the random function: I never used it so I can not confirm if it's the case on my unit. I will try to do a test at some point.

About your "Appplication mgr has experienced an error..." message. That doesn't sound too good... Never happened to me. It might be caused by your mp3 data; I would suggest trying a completely different and smaller data set to see if it's still the case. I did however had a kind of similar message when trying to install the ethernet driver. It turns out that somwhow the registry in Windows got corrupted (what's new) and I had to reflash the Windows OS firmware and reinstall the UI shell. (See FAQ at first post...) I'm not suggesting you should do that right away; but if all fail, that might be a possibility. Check the mp3 data first.

Good luck and let us know!

Thank you Bulle, I had no idea that if you left the Navi on and Music, it would go back to that spot when you return, great feature. However, I tried it after you mentioned the unit had it and low and behold, when the system was booting back up, the sd card music and navi opened and also the dreaded "AppMgr.exe has recovered from a serious error and needs to close" once again.

I tried this, took one album off the sd card and loaded it to the local flash mem on the machine, played that album and turned on the navi as well, turned the car off and then turned it back on with no errors! Just doesn't remember the Random function but thats okay. But this tells me it might be a memory function perhaps? crashing when trying to open Navi, Music, etc while the machine is booting up, who knows? Maybe its easier for the machine to open up 2 different applications when one is on the flash mem, unfortunately there is only like 249MB on the flash mem!

Anyway, I checked my settings and they look about the same as you guys...

    Shell: 2.82.8
    OS: EN-PRIMA-V1.53-60HZ
MCU: D69TTRH7-BH-T1-V9.03 (I have JBL so its the unit thats works with the JBL)

Thank you again for all of your help and responses, these units are great, lots of options and much better than stock to me as Navi isnt even a dealer option for us in the Tacoma!

Interesting! So you do have a newer version of shell and OS. Even MCU.
If you can get hold of those firmwares, that would be safer for you in case something goes wrong.

As for your problem, it may just be a particular album or may be the size of them.
May be you can try a smaller set again from the SD card. It should work really.

    Hi Trik,
upgrading OS to 1.51 should not affect the MCU firmware; it should still be there. If no sound is playing then may be OS 1.51 is not compatible with your unit. You can always revert to 1.50 (look at the files on first post) and see what happens.

BTW I'm not aware of this MCU specific version 4.31...
Is this for a Prius unit? What is the exact unit model you have?

Looks like our German friends have discovered us!
    (Roadrover GUI ändern!!!)

They have very good mods and software overthere; check it out.

@Bulle: Don't hesitate to post in English, most of us understand ...

Never try to change the MCU unless you get one from your dealer or from Road Rover. This firmware MUST always exactly match your hardware. Wrong MCU would brick the unit.

Some thoughts-some more coherent then others-

Recently installed(for the the second time, got a unit middle of last year and it didn't sit well with the JBL system...) and it's working like a charm.

The link on the first post for the update of the MCU to 9.02 didn't work for me, but there's a direct link on the bottom of the ottonavi homepage that did the trick.

Thanks to all of you guys who have done all this work, I've updated many things(RDS, spelling errors, iGo things...) and using the CFM 4 which is very well done.

    Some general gripes
-my large fingers have a hard time removing the sd card
-the ipod interface- I wish it broke down more like an ipod and went from artist-album-songs instead of artist-songs. I'm an album guy, I like the whole thing, but it just sorts it alpha after you choose the artist.
And it's difficult to sort through and pick an artist, not very intuitive.
-My clock doesn't stay at the right time. Every time I go start my car it's an hour back.
-Is there anyway to change the the actual text on the skin/app buttons? I've got the rrui tool and have figured out how to change/manipulate the apps and appearance, etc, but my girlfriend is already confused by the fact that the CD gets controlled through the DVD app, and I'd like to change it to say CD instead of DVD, is that possible? And the CD "player" is kinda lame- very early computer look to it-
-I'm looking into the constructing some sort of cover or block for the sun like the unit sold here for the factory radio- not the brightest of displays. Any thoughts, ideas? Is it even worth trying?

Any insight on anything above would be appreciated-

    Hello mschul,

    About the link...
I just checked and it seems to work for me.
Did you mean the install program didn't work? (because Ottonavi posted a different one apparently...)
I will add the link to Ottonavi in any case.

About removing the SD card: I use a tiny pair of pliers... a lot easier.

iPod: not much we can do about the behavior; hard coded in Manager.exe. The best we can do is to reaarange elements and make some of them bigger.

Clock: I had the same problem. Seems it doesn't know how to handle Daylight Savings.. I just used the next Time Zone and that did it...

DVD: yes I think we can change the labeling by editing the the right string in lang.dll.

Sun visor: I'm looking for the same thing; I'm thinking something really simple like a plastic sheet can be cut and that would do it. Also you can adjust somewhat the brightness through the hidden menus (see FAQ). I also noticed that the BrightOrange skin is not so bad after all during the day compared to the other ones in terms of visibility. The other skins are nicer at night.
I also bought a ScreenGuard (for tablets), cut it and install it on the screen. It does remove some of the glare and protect the screen a little.

    Thanks for your input!

Apologies, I meant the file itself didn't work. The installer part of it couldn't read which MCU I had installed and said the one enclosed wasn't made for my unit? The one from the ottonavi site was spot on.

I've never been a big fan of Apple products and was just borrowing an ipod to test out, I'll just stick with a USB stick and my tunes on that, easier to sort through files that way...

I'll try the time zone switch, not a big deal I suppose...

Hopefully next week I'll be able to fiddle with making a thin plastic visor or something... have to see what I have floating around for a project as such. I wish there was a way to have it change skins based on time of day- that would be handy.

I'll try the screen guard too, I have a piece from the back of a tablet I never used-

Let me know if you get a chance to change the DVD to CD, obviously no rush- my hex coding is a lot rusty- thanks

About the installer: yes, that was the behavior but it worked anyway.
Good to know Ottonavi has a better one then.
The firmware file itself is actually exactly the same.

About the skins: they do have a way of changing skins based on time in the previous versions. I'm just not sure why they did not enabled it in this version. I will try to find a way...

Changing DVD to CD shouldn't be a problem. I'll try to do it this weekend.

@mschul: here's a new LANG.DLL to keep the girlfriend happy.
    Tested and working ok.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63503986/LANG-CD.zip

Please note this will work only if you have selected English in your settings.
It also contains the fix for the labeling in Bluetooth.

May be better to do a backup of your original LANG.DLL just in case.
Unzip and copy to \StaticStore\I9 folder.

I really appreciate that- I'll give a whirl later today and let you know how it goes.

I guess you can change the skin for the nav portion, which is probably the most important part at this point for me. Drove all around NE yesterday and was pretty happy with the unit. Definitely need to find a way to cut back on glare-

The only thing I noticed that I've yet to fiddle/figure out is when using the music app and playing mp3 from usb, I put all my music in folders by artist, and when I bring up the file explorer to pick music the artists aren't in alphabetical order- wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have 40+ artists on the drive...

Thanks for all your work bulle- much appreciated

Hi thank you for detail info
    But some important info
Today I upgrade G1 (Fedom) headunit to G2 from Ottonavi
    UI much better
but more important: after MCU 9.02 I have excellent sound without Schoche adapter

For upgrading MCU to 9.02 use link from Ottonavi website download section only, because other link has MCU Upgrade exe file for old units (G1) and you cannot upgrade MCU and dont even try because it can brick headunit. I had bad experience with MCU and recover was possible only with SWIM Programmer

what steps are necessary to upgrade from G1 to G2 ? Will this UI also run without updating MCU ?

    I mean I bought G2 unit.
As I know it is not possible convert G1 to G2 with firmware, I tried all MCU versions on G1 and no luck. New interface with big clock (i9) doesnt see MCU, so no buttons, no radio, no sound. It seems G2 has different hardware.

You're right G1 and G2 have a little bit different hardware and it's not possible to run current G2 MCU firmware on G1 hardware. But the genuine manufacturer Roadrover already released a special version of MCU firmware for Mazda 6 model C7007M6 to get it bridged. Based on this cross firmware the G2 GUI i9 is running well on G1 hardware ! Of course G1 hardware does'nt offer the new 9 band EQ and some more nice audio features as G2 hardware do. But all other features are running well.
I'm currently waiting for this special MCU update for my RAV4 model C7009TR. Just wanted to know, how you did it but sorry I misunderstood.

    Hello mbarkh,

yes, thanks for confirming that the link for Ottonavi is better when you are upgrading directly from 9.00.

The truth is this is not what I have used at the time.
    Here's why...
Ottonavi sent us an MCU firmware 9.05 to fix the JBL problem (yes it was a 9.05).
That didn't work out; there was no sound at all. This firmware was not meant for this unit.
Then they sent us 9.02 along with a new MCU .exe installer; the one you used from the Ottonavi link.
In my case, this one refused to install because 9.05 was already there.
So there was no way to install 9.02 anymore.
Then I found out that 9.02 could be installed again by using the old MCU program (from my first link).
There was a warning message as you saw but if you go ahead it will install the firmware properly.
So this is how I installed my version of 9.02.
    Didn't mean to confuse anyone!
But this is how I have done it and there was no way for me to tell if the Ottonavi link was actually working because I never upgraded directly from 9.00.

    Bottom line is:

I trust what you said and I will update the FAQ and remove the other confusing link.
(but it's good to know we have a way of forcing a firmware update if we have to!
